Club Competition Rules 2006-2007

Please note that the rules shown below are a summary of the important points. For full details, members should refer to the printed booklet WWPS Competition Rules.

General
As an experimental change for this season, there will be only one grade (Open) in all competitions.

Annual Print Competition
There are two classes, monochrome and colour. A print consisting of a single colour throughout its area shall be considered to be a monochrome print. A monochrome print shall be allowed to have one additional colour applied to part of its area. Any other print shall be considered to be a colour print, irrespective of the process used to produce the colours. A print must have been made from a negative or a transparency or a digital image, which has been created in a camera-like object by the member. Prints must be mounted on board but not framed.
For each Heat, the Print Competition Secretary shall, at his or her discretion, ask the judge to place the best prints (up to 4 dependent on the number of entries) in order of merit in the monochrome class and the best prints (up to 6 dependent on the number of entries) in order of merit in the colour class. The judge may also award Hon. mentions to any other prints that he/she wishes. The judge will not be asked to give a score or award points.
In the Finals, the judge will be asked to select the best print in each class and may also award Hon. Mentions at his/her discretion.

Annual Slide Competition
Slides may be monochrome or colour. For each Heat, the Slide Competition Secretary shall, at his/her discretion, ask the judge to place the best slides (up to 6 dependent on the number of entries) in order of merit. The judge may also award Hon. Mentions to any other slides that he/she wishes. The judge will not be asked to give a score or award points.
In the Finals, the judge will be asked to select the best slide and may also award Hon. Mentions at his/her discretion.

Annual Members' Competition
A Competition shall be held annually with the following classes: Monochrome Prints, Colour Prints, Slides. Up to twenty entries may be submitted by any one person in each class.
The judge will be asked to select the best print or slide in each class.

Natural History Competition
There is only one class and entries may be prints and/or slides. The subject of an entry shall be a living organism (other than a human being) as indicated by the entry's title; it may be wild or cultivated. The image of the object should be clear and sharp within the picture area. Artistic merit should be a secondary consideration.
The judge will be asked to select the best entry, and may also award Hon. Mentions at his/her discretion. The judge wll not be asked to give a score or award points.

Record Competition
There is only one class and entries may be prints and/or slides. The subject of an entry shall be an inanimate man-made object as indicated by the entry's title. The image of the object should be clear and sharp within the picture area. Artistic merit should be a secondary consideration.
The judge will be asked to select the best entry, and may also award Hon. Mentions at his/her discretion. The judge will not be asked to give a score or award points.

Series 6 Slide Competition
There is only one class. Each entry will consist of a set of from five to eight slides which illustrate a common theme or a sequence. The image quality, whilst important, is secondary to the way in which the series is constructed. The judge will be asked to select the best series viewed as a whole, and may also award Hon. Mentions for other sets at his/her discretion. The judge will not be asked to give a score or award points.

Set Subject Competition
There is only one class and entries may be prints and/or slides. An entry will be judged on its ability to illustrate the set subject which is agreed by members at the AGM.
