The symbols used are rather standard.
Large symbols represent infantry battalions (at least 2 companies), artillery groups (at least 2 batteries and plenty of logistical units/vehicles), tank or tankette battalions (at least 3 platoons), HQs (with staff and logistical units/vehicles). For the artillery groups, calibers are indicated, and these are either field guns or howitzers. For all other large units, the unit's name is present. Note that for the Republican "Cuatro Naciones" Battalion, the "mechanized infantry" symbol is used. A bit of an over-statement, even if this is unit certainly packs more punch and mobility than the average infantry battalion. This is the regrouping of several odds and ends; it includes infantry, some trucks, one Bilbao armoured car troop and one T26B tank platoon.
Smaller symbols represent a company (if infantry or engineers - at least 2 platoons), a single battery (if artillery), a squadron or single troop (if cavalry, usually recon troops), a single armoured platoon (if armour). A few HQ smaller symbols are present, too; these represent the instances in which the command platoon of the brigade is not together with the staff and the rest of the HQ units. In the case of artillery batteries, both the caliber and the type of guns is given. In all other cases, the unit's is present.
By mistake, one unit is without name, off-map in the South-eastern corner: the "Burgos" Falange Bandera, which was never committed. Blanked-out built-up areas and bridges have been destroyed during the game.
