Press Release - New Hits package"With 42 top 40 hits spanning over 4 decades, Sony and EMI have joined forces to release an ultimate collection of the Stranglers works aptly entitled ‘FORTYTWOFORTY’ to be released this year and incorporating a TV, radio and Press campaign unrivalled in the bands 24 year career.
First forming in 1974 the bands straight talking approach gave them the reputation as aggressive and confrontational with their notoriety later embraced by the punk movement of 77. This led to their debut single 'Grip' and their legendary first album Rattus Norvegicus. This was followed by such hits as ‘Peaches’, ‘No More Heroes’, ‘5 Minutes’, ‘Duchess’, ‘Something Better Change’, ‘Always the Sun’ and their ultimate classic ‘Golden Brown’.
To date the bands success boasts 24 top 40 singles and 18 top 40 albums.
After re-signing to EMI in 2004 their last 2 albums 'Norfolk Coast' and ‘Suite XVI’ have been hailed as their best for 20 years, with hit singles ‘Big Thing Coming’ and ‘Long Black Veil’ giving the band the rare accolade of maintaining top 40 hits over 4 decades.
The band are already confirmed this year for T in the Park, V Festival, Isle of White, Hyde Park, Oxygen and Liverpool Pops in the UK and will also be appearing at key festivals in Europe throughout the Summer.

Meanwhile "On Stage On Screen" the DVD featuring the band live at Shepherds Bush Empire in 2005 and the Norfolk Coast film will receive a full commercial release 16th June.

JJ has been outlining his and the band's plans for 2008.
Ahead of the forthcoming gig in Buxton JJ said the coming year would see the band working on a new album for release next year.
As announced previously JJ will be taking a sabbatical in Japan to study for his 7th dan which he will do in March and April.
He also revealed the band have some major festival appearances lined up this summer ahead of a big tour during in October and November.
