WRENN formula '152' triple electric model motor racing was produced by G. & R. Wrenn Limited of Basildon, Essex, England for eight years, first going on sale at Christmas 1960.
With two conductor strips each side of the slot and adjustable pickups on the cars, three cars could be raced independently, changing lanes by means of a manually operated deflector track section.
The Mk.1 cars had 16v AC vibrator motors, which could also run on 12v DC, while the Mk.2 were powered by conventional 12v DC motors.
For the first few years sales were good, however the popularity of the 1/52 scale declined as 1/24, 1/32 and HO became the standard scales for model racing. Also the cars were difficult to maintain and keep at optimum performance.
An attempt to halt the decline was made by introducing the DC motor and more up to date models, but sales continued to fall and the range went out of production.
Wrenn had become part of the Lines Brothers Group and in 1965 took over the production of Hornby Dublo locomotives under their own name. There was no economic sense in continuing with formula '152'.
