The decorative Gavel on the left was just something that came to me in a flash,with out thinking,the coves and curves just flowed.I"m not sure what the wood was but it possibly was a hardwood from Africa,I think, with a nice natural creamy colour and interesting grain.
The Spalted Beech bowl,again on the left was my first bowl turned on my Draper lathe.It"s 8 inches diameter, 3 inches deep and adorns our dining table with fruit in it.I will mention more about Spalting on a later page.
The Toadstool was literally growing as a tree one minuete,and within an hour it was a Toadstool,let me explain,sometimes I walk done the lane out into country side about...500yards from where I live,their at the side of the lane workers were clearing the hedge bottoms and layering the hedges to thicken them up,and there at the side of a small fire was some thinings ready to be burnt,asking permission to take a couple of pieces,hey presto,a toadstool appeared on our mantle piece made out of hawthorn...
These Wooden fruit are self explanitary,but the Pear in the middle is made from Zebra wood from Africa.
