14 January 2005 Major high level repairs are required to ensure the long term future of St. Nicholas Church. Following an application to English Heritage, a grant of some £130,000 has been offered towards the total cost. Grants will also be available from the Listed Places of Worship Grant scheme and Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust have offered a grant of £3000. Thank you 1 March 2005 English Heritage and the National Lottery Fund have announced that 18 churches in the South West will be receiving grants under the Repair Grants for Place of Worship Scheme. The total for the South West amounts to some £2 Million. St. Nicholas Parish Church has been offered £130,000 for a two stage scheme. Stage 1 (development stage) will see a temporary scaffold roof installed over the chancel and the tiles removed to allow access to the medieval timberwork. Stage 2 will see the reroofing of the nave,chancel and porch together with new guttering and other high level repairs

2 March 2005 It is hoped that the stage 1 works can commence in April 2005. The works are subject to the Diocese Faculty procedures but a request has been made direct to the Chancellor to carry out the stage 1 works under and extended de minimis arrangement. We are hoping for a decision shortly. The stage 2 works are planned to start in the Autumn but will again require a Faculty and it is hoped that the stage 2 scheme can be submitted to the Diocesan Advisory Committee meeting on the 15th July7th April The Chancellor of the Diocese granted permission for the roof works at stage 1 to be carried out under the extended de minimis rules.Tenders have been received and contractors appointed for the stage 1 investigation works. The scaffolding company started to erect the scaffolding and temporary roof over the chancel on the 4th April. The slates to the chancel will be removed week commencing the 11th April

HCPT was founded in 1953 to help tackle the damage and enforced neglect brought about by World War II. Its income is derived entirely from voluntary contributions - from its Friends, from legacies and from other trusts and bodies which rely on HCPT's know-how to distribute money for churches to where it is most needed. Major donors include the Manifold Trust, the Pilgrim Trust and the Esmée Fairbairn Trust. 15 July 2005 St. Nicholas, Wilsford have been awarded £200 from the Allchurches Trust towards the re-roofing project. More details about the work of the Trust can be found on their website via the Links page 1 October 2005 The Veneziana Fund have kindly offered £1,000 towards the cost of the re-roofing works. Following a summer of specialists looking at all aspects of the roof and tower staircase, a final specification for the work has been issued to English Heritage for their approval. A facility has been applied for to carry out the work and subject to EH approval tenders to do the work will be sent out within the next few weeks. Work is estimated to start on site 9th January and be completed by the end of April 2006,when the bats will return to roost. 27 FEBRUARY 2006 Work will start on reroofing the Chancel, Nave and Porch roof's on 13th March 2006, following approval from English Heritage to proceed with the stage 2 works. Ellis and Co, a firm of specialist conservation builders will be carrying out the work.
