Crete has an amazing history. It is a mixture of all nations and has architectural influences from all sorts of society. Venetian types of architecture feature greatly, especially around the coastal areas. The cuisine varies around the island and they are very proud of their regional cooking. Please try to sample the Greek food and not stick to everything with chips. The Greeks over the years have tried to adapt their service to suit the "foreign tourist" and unfortunately I think in the popular areas are going overboard with the chips. You will never get the real feel of Greece if you don't give their food a try. It may be different but so tasty that I'm sure you will end up buying a Greek cookery book. When you get back, invite your friends for a Greek night. Try out your recipes and drink Ouzo and Raki to relive your memories. Yamas!!
