The views as you meander through the Village to reception and then down the alleyways to our house are stunning. Our comfy little house has two terraces where you can sit in the evening soaking in the atmosphere. A short walk takes you to bars, pools, tavernas and restaurants. There is a superb sports centre and ' THE SWIMMING RIVER ' - 160 metres in length. Are you feeling energetic? No - then there are jaccuzzis. After dusk stroll around enjoying the variety of the fun and entertainment offered by the complex. Once again if you do feel energetic there is a disco near the beach. Welcome breezes waft across this part of the island and carry the worries of the day away with them. Everything on the complex is very relaxed, but there is so much to do if you wish. Fees are obviously payable if you wish to make use of the tennis courts, sports centre etc. These are supposed to be reasonable. If you want to scuba dive then that is there too. The supermarkets are on the complex but if you wish to go into self-catering in a big way there are large supermarkets in Sitia which stock everything. BUT!!! please remember you are on holiday, give yourselves a break - eat out at least some of the time. The cost of meals in Greece is not deadly and there is nothing nicer than eating out. Quietly sitting enjoying an ouzo or a glass of wine while you await the arrival of your meal. Let your imagination run away with you while you study the people promenading along the front of the tavernas, the warm evening breeze whispering though your hair. My advice is that you hire a car for at least some part of your holiday. Although everything you could want is on the complex it really would be a sin not to see Crete at its' best. It is a beautiful island but very long. Tourists to the island never normally see further from their resorts than Iraklion, Agios Nikolaos and the Palace of Knossos. If you have been there before you may have been lucky enough to have been on a day trip to the Island of Spinalonga (a former leper colony.) There is nothing whatsoever stopping you taking the car and going yourself. Pick up the ferry over to it at the harbour in Elounda and pay the extra for the tour with the guide if you wish. Well worth the money and if you get there under your own steam - a great deal cheaper. Beware though - if you are soft hearted take your tissues....it's a very sad story.... interesting though and sometimes the little church is open. I always light candles and put some money in their box. They are renovating the houses on the island at the moment so that we can all get a better idea of its' history. The money goes towards the renovations.
