The Dionysos Village lies to the east of the island. At the moment you fly to Heraklion Airport and if you feel confident enough you hire a car and take a leisurely drive down the nice new highway, (by Greek standards) through some of the most attractive scenery in Crete. As you near the town of Sitia you will notice on the mountains to the right hand side of you masses of wind turbines. You will expect the Teletubbies to come charging down to meet you.
These turbines are now producing cheap electricity for the island and hopefully have reduced the power cuts that any regular visitor to Greece will have encountered before.
