Soothing Oils

Amla, Raat-ki-Rani and Jasmine are all Indian hair oils and can be found in Indian / Asian supermarkets. Amla and Raat-ki-Rani are highly aromatic and contain herbal blends. Jasmine oil holds the fragrance of that exotic flower and is very uplifting. All three are good hair tonics.

Almond oil is a good base oil to use for hair and body. It is a warming oil and useful for muscle aches and stiffness. Essential oils can be added to enhance it's properties.

Coconut oil is a lovely light oil and very moisturising for both hair and body. This too can have essential oils added to it. It is solid at room temperature but if stood in a little hot water, will soon turn liquid.

Sesame oil (not the toasted variety!), is the most popular in Ayurvedic medicine. It is anti-inflammatory and is particularly useful for massage after sport or over-exertion. It is very beneficial to both hair and body and is believed to to have anti-greying properties.

Olive oil can relieve muscular aches and pains and is suitable for use if a nut allergy is present.

Before applying any oils, it is advisable to do a skin test by dabbing a small amount on the inside of the wrist or behind the ear. Leave for a few hours and inform your therapist if there is any reaction or sensitivity.
