Trevor Martin Trevor Martin first worked at the RSC in 1962, playing Hippolito in Women Beware Women (Anthony Page) at the Arts Theatre, and Captain in Curtmantle (Stuart Burge), Menelaus in Troilus and Cressida (Peter Hall), and Richelieu in The Devils (Peter Wood) at the Aldwych. From 1963 to 66 he was a member of the National Theatre company at the Old Vic (Rodas in The Royal Hunt of the Sun). From 1969 to 1980 he appeared regularly with Prospect, on tour and at the Old Vic (Lancaster in the Ian McKellen Edward II, Kent in the Timothy West King Lear). In 1984 he joined the RSC's small-scale touring troupe to play Corey in The Crucible (Barry Kyle) and Old Shepherd in The Winter's Tale (Adrian Noble). He has since become a mainstay of the Company: Host of the Garter in The Merry Wives of Windsor (Bill Alexander, RST, 1985, Barbican, 1986); Harry Caine in The Dillen (Kyle, TOP, 1985); Jack Timms in Mary, After the Queen (Kyle, The Warehouse, Stratford, 1985); Duke of Venice in Othello (Terry Hands, RST, 1985, Barbican, 1986); Dr Neuwirth in Vaclav Havel's Temptation (Roger Michell, TOP, 1987, Pit, 1988); Samuel in Heidi Thomas's Indigo (Sarah Pia Anderson, TOP, 1987); Gremio in The Taming of the Shrew (Jonathan Miller, RST, 1987, Barbican, 1988); Trundle in Ben Jonson's The New Inn (John Caird, Swan, 1987); Caius Lucius, succeeding Geoffrey Freshwater, in Cymbeline (Alexander, Pit, 1988); Tiresias in Oedipus (Donald Sumpter, Almeida, 1988); Antonio in Much Ado About Nothing (Alexander, RST, 1990, Barbican, 1991); Mr Scott in Richard Nelson's Two Shakespearean Actors (Michell, Swan, 1990, Pit, 1991); Shamrayev in The Seagull (Hands, Swan, 1990, Barbican, 1991); Baptista in The Taming of the Shrew (Alexander, RST, 1992, Barbican, 1993); Eumaeus in Derek Walcott's The Odyssey (Gregory Doran, TOP, 1992, Pit, 1993); Soldan of Egypt in Tamburlaine the Great (Hands, Swan, 1992, Barbican, 1993); Bennett in Tom Stoppard's Travesties (Noble, Barbican, 1993, Savoy, 1994); Doctor/Duncan, succeeding Joseph O'Conor, in the Antony Sher Macbeth (Doran, Swan, 1999-00, Tour and Young Vic, 2000); Duke of Austria/Peter of Pomfret in King John (Doran, Swan, 2001, Pit, 2001-02); Jago in Peter Barnes's Jubilee (Doran, Swan, 2001); Soothsayer in Antony and Cleopatra (Michael Attenborough, RST, 2002, Theatre Royal Haymarket, 2002); and Antonio in Much Ado About Nothing (Doran, RST, 2002, Theatre Royal Haymarket, 2002).
