The Fool

Edward Bond's play about the rural poet John Clare, stricken by indifference and poverty and confined to a madhouse, was premiered at the Royal Court in 1975. Peter Gill directed Tom Courtenay (in the name part), Mick Ford, John Normington, Nigel Terry and David Troughton. Howard Davies's spare RSC revival played in the studio theatres.
