Shaun Davey One of Ireland's leading composers, based in Dublin, Shaun Davey has written some of the best theatre music of recent years. His spare but lyrical scores for Adrian Noble's RSC productions of The Winter's Tale (1992), King Lear (1993), Romeo and Juliet (1995) and Pericles (2002) were thematically integrated into the whole, underpinning key moments like film music. His other RSC scores are: The Fair Maid of the West (Trevor Nunn, Swan, 1986); Mary and Lizzie (Sarah Pia Anderson, Pit, 1989); Troilus and Cressida (Sam Mendes, Swan, 1990); Columbus and the Discovery of Japan (John Caird, Barbican, 1992); The Tempest (Mendes, RST, 1993); and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Noble, 1998). He wrote the music for the BBC dramas The Hanging Gale (1995), Ballykissangel (1995-97), and Loving (1995). His film scores include Trevor Nunn's Twelfth Night (1996), and Waking Ned (1998). Many of his concert works have been inspired by Irish history. They include The Brendan Voyage (1980), The Relief of Derry Symphony (1990), and The Pilgrim (1994). |
