Tony Armatrading was a member of the RSC from 1986 to 1989: Sancho in The Rover (John Barton, Swan, 1986, Mermaid, 1987); Second Captain in The Fair Maid of the West (Trevor Nunn, Swan, 1986, Mermaid, 1987); Scipio in The Great White Hope (Nicholas Kent, Mermaid, 1987); Tybalt, succeeding Hugh Quarshie towards the end of the London run, in Romeo and Juliet (Michael Bogdanov, Barbican, 1987); Colonel Standard in The Constant Couple (Roger Michell, Swan, 1988); Banquo in Macbeth (Adrian Noble, RST, 1988, Barbican, 1989); and Captain in The Love of the Nightingale (Garry Hynes, TOP, 1988, Pit, 1989).
