Follow Path 1 on your map (below)
to walk to the large oak tree. There, turn left and continue along the
'Oak Walk' planted from acorns in 1990, wit 4 Horse Chestnuts grown from
conkers in 1991.
This leads to Path 2, which if you turn left
again, will take you, through out Millennium planting of 30 different
species of Oak in the form of an E.
Alternatively, you can turn right,
through new woodland planting and enter the wood. The first exit, on the
left, takes you back via Path 3 to the garden. You will see our Jubilee
planting of 20 Oaks, nearly all different species, in the form of a
Compass on the left of the ride.
For a slightly longer walk, continue
along the edge of the wood, formerly a poplar plantation, devastated by
the 1987 hurricane, which is being left to regenerate. Turn left
to enter the wildflower path, Path 4, which was created in 1992.
Both the path and the hedges on either side are particularly species
rich.
Path 5 behind the Barns afford
wonderful view of the valley. Follow it round and then walk up the Lime
Avenue back to the barn.
Please keep to the mown paths and keep
your dogs on the lead so as not to disturb the hares, skylarks and other
wild life.
