Other Severnside Wildlife Pictures

Severnside is not only of great importance to birds but is also home to many other species of wildlife. I have recently started to capture some of these using digital photography and thought some of the images would be of interest.

These three species of Orchid were all found in June 2004. The plant on the right is Bee Orchid. Below left is a Common Spotted Orchid, which is actually very rare on Severnside with only a handful of records. Below right is a Southern Marsh Orchid, the first recorded here for many years.

Common Blue, as the name suggests, this is a Common Butterfly seen from April to October.

Male Red-veined Darter. This rare migrant Dragonfly has been seen at Severn Beach in three of the last four years.

Clouded Yellow. Usually a scarce migrant butterfly from the Continent. Some years large numbers can be seen.

Essex Skipper is a Butterfly that has only recently been recorded in this area following an expansion of it’s range in the UK.
