2003 SIGHTINGS

This was a remarkable year on Severnside. A year in which 173 species were found, the second highest year total of species recorded. Three “firsts” were discovered during the year; a Cetti’s Warbler in March, Red-backed Shrike in August and a Caspian Gull in November.

A fine supporting cast including 2
Smew, 2 Avocets, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, 2 Ospreys, 2 Wrynecks, Wood Warblers, Grasshopper Warblers, Firecrests, Pied Flycatcher, Woodlark, Lapland Bunting, Snow Bunting, Corn Buntings and Crossbills, all contributed to a classic year.

There were some disappointments, with no Garganey, Pomarine Skuas or Leach’s Petrels being reported, all of which had become regular in recent years.

Click on the months below to see a daily report. Enjoy the memories and pictures and I hope that 2004 is as enjoyable.
