Typical Wiltshire countryside

Wiltshire

Now this was my weekend of culture and English history. Culture apparenty is something other than an enzyme added to milk to make yoghurt. We did the grand tour of places like Stourhead (Garden by Henry Hoare 'The Magnificent' from the 1740's) and Longleat House (Capability Brown applied the green thumb here), Chettle House (A beautiful Queen Anne) and The Lamb (A fine establishment with great beer and hard beds).
The gardens are absolutely mind blowing, with trees hundreds of years old and enourmous. If only I knew about this place when I was 10 - the potential for building cubby houses is untapped.

Wiltshire is also where the army tear around in tanks and play war on the Salisbury Plain. There are these funny little tank crossings everywhere on the roads and I have a mental picture of going for a Sunday drive and being flattened by a tank at one of these crossings! Better tell my sister to watch out when she comes to live here.
