26th January 2005- Sorry that there has been little change in recent weeks - It's been hard to find the time! Firstly, on a good note, the club is waiting to hear official news regarding Swim21 accreditation. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank everyone for their contribution - no matter how small. Without all your hard work, this would have not been possible.
Our seaside gala beckons once again, and we hope to start receiving entries from early February. Please keep an eye of the website for entry forms, news etc. We do plan to have a fourth session this year, which will incorporate a skins competition as well as 100m and 200m IM events. More details to follow soon.
10th February 2005 - Lots has been happening in and around the club just lately. First the good news! Our club has need received confirmation of its success in securing the Nationally recognised Swim21 Accolade! A special thank you to all those involved in the club's success - you hard work has been appreciated!
For all those eagerly awaiting news and information regarding our 10th Seaside swim this year. I know that you are all eager to book your hotels etc, and I ask you to indulge us a little longer, as we are finalising the details. Our swimmers have been busy in the water - A win in the Friendly league got the year underway, followed by successes at the 23rd Harrogate Open meet 29/30th January, then, more of the same in the Yorkshire Senior/Junior Championships at Leeds on the 5/6th February.

The club were in Pocklington Times League action over the weekend. It was a real nail-biter for 2nd,3rd and 4th place. The club found itself trailing in 4th place with 8 events remaining. With two events remaining, we moved in 2nd place behind Askern Spa. A full report will appear soon. Gala result was: 1st Askern 132pts, 2nd Scarborough 116pts, 3rd Adwick 114pts, 4th South Axeholme 111pts
20th February 2005 - Our apologies to all our readers who wish to enter our A & B Gala. There have been a number of errors which have crept in on a number of the documents. We believe all the correct documentation is now in place, and can be found at the link on the 15th February.
Please to note that nine year olds will be accepted into this gala, provided they are 10 by 31/12/05.
The club traveled to Adwick for the second of the Pocklington League division 2 galas. What an exciting gala this too turned out to be! We had a good start to the gala, and at the half way stage, Askern were on 68pts with us and Adwick on 62pts, with South Axeholme trailing on 55pts.
When the final results were announced, it came as a complete shock to see that Scarborough had won the gala by one point over Askern! Final result was: 1st Scarborough 123pts, 2nd Askern 122pts, 3rd Adwick 116pts, 4th South Axeholme 101pts.

25th February 2005 - Our A&B gala is open for business now, with the first clubs already sending in their entries. This gala does fill up very quickly and we would advise you get your entries in as soon as possible. The second Pocklington gala was held last Saturday in Adwick, where a surprised Scarborough Swimming Club came away with victory! Read all about here.
7th March 2005 - Our swimmers have been in action during the recently held first Yorkshire Bagcat Championship meet at Leeds. Read how they did [Gareth Mills - Won gold and other medals!] The second gala has been held, and the results/report will follow.
13th March 2005 - Second Yorkshire Championship report available to read - more medals won by our young swimmers - well done to them. Entries are coming in steadily for our A & B Gala, anyone thinking of entering our gala, is urged to get their entries in as soon as possible.
22nd March 2005 - Friendly league were in action last week, read how they got on. Don't forget the Photo shoot on Wednesday evening at 1700 hours at the Indoor Pool. The final Age Group Championships were recently held at Sheffield, and a report will appear in due course.
The club is fully behind London's bid for the Olympics in 2012. Let's hope we can win the bid this time!
29th March 2005 - Swimmers have been taking part in the British World Championship Trials in Manchester [16-20th March] and other competing at the last of the Yorkshire Age Group Championships, as well as three swimmers taking part in the Butlins Swimathon, raising money for charity.
8th April 2005 - Last night the Friendly league team were in action at Derwent Valley, with the team putting in an excellent performance to win as follows: Gala Points: 1st Scarborough 142 points, 2nd Thirsk White Horse 136 points, 3rd Ryedale 117 points, 4th Derwent Valley 92 points,
5th Bridlington 79 points. Well done team!
22nd April 2005 - On Saturday 21st May, the club will be holding a celebration gala for it's members, in recognition of Swim21 accreditation. A number of our swimmers have been doing very well at galas held in Hull and Harrogate, as well as league action in the Pocklington league and BLDSA Postal swim [photo shoot - 25th April, 1700 at the Indoor pool] The result of the Pocklington Times division 2 encounter was as follows: ASKERN SPA 140pts, SOUTH AXHOLME 111pts, SCARBOROUGH 110pts, ADWICK 108pts, which means that our club will be competing another season in Division 2 next year. Report will appear in due course.
During the Swimathon swam in March, Aaron Yeoman was provisionally placed in 3rd place nationally, but now it has been confirmed that he is now moved up to 1st place, so congratulations to Aaron, who last won this event in 2003, and was runner-up last year.
The A & B gala is almost full, and I will be placing a list of clubs entered on this website very soon.
Soon we will be turning our attentions to Open water swimming, and the NECASA will be holding two Grand Prix events on our door step, and entry forms can be obtained here. A 4km and 1.5km swim for seniors over weekend, 2nd/3rd July, with the Sea swim set for September.
24th April 2004 - I just thought I had to get the result of the first Ridings League Gala onto this website. The whole team showed great spirit to overall last year's champions, Scarborough Kingfishers, and to comprehensively win their home gala by 17 points - Well done to the whole club! - From the coaching staff down to the youngest swimmer, you have shown you have what it takes! Result: 1st Scarborough Swimming Club 158pts, 2nd Scarborough - Kingfishers 'A' 141pts, 3rd Thirsk White Horse 95pts, 4th South Holderness Rockets 73pts
Next weekend, Aaron Yeoman and Sarah Roberts represent the club when they take on the British 5km Indoor Championships held at Sheffield. Both swimmers qualified from swims completed earlier in the year - we wish them a good swim!
25th April 2005 - During the Ridings League 1 Gala, there were 7 records broken, 5 by our swimmers, and 2 by Kingfishers. The Division 1 Ridings records now reflect these new records. Well done to all those concerned.
26th April 2005 - The A & B Gala closing date is nearly with us, and there are sixteen club, plus Scarborough, whose attendance have been confirmed. The following clubs will be coming to the gala: Tadcaster, Thirsk White Horse, Wetherby, Doncaster Dartes, Armthorpe, City of Sheffield, Kingfishers, Grimsby Santa Marina, Billingham, Bridlington,Sheffield City,Spenborough, Ryedale ,New Earswick,Adwick ,Lindum Mink. We look forward to welcoming you all to our 10th seaside gala.
27th April 2005 - Report for the Ridings Division 1 Gala is now completed.
30th April 2005 - Entry to the gala is now closed. Aaron Yeoman recently competed in the British 5km Championships at Sheffield at was placed a very respectable 5th in this National Competition. The report can be found here.
22nd May 2005 - The club has been a hive of activity during the past three weeks. Our swimmers have been winning medals all over the place, as well as achieving National Qualifying times along the way! We have had Master's swimmers in action in Swansea and Scarborough, also swimmers in Wear Valley, Middlesbrough. Paul Hargreaves sealed the club record for the 100m Breaststroke in Middlesbrough, taking Jon Cheshire's record which has stood for a number of years.
We have also celebrated a most wonderful 'Swim21' Gala, where we were presented with our accreditation by the ASA President, Anne Clark, who took time out of her busy schedule to make the trip to Scarborough. A presentation was also made to the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavalier's for the sum of £1400, which was raised in the Charity gala held late last year.
The gala was enjoyed by all, both young and old, and a buffet was held afterwards. A full report with photo's will appear here, as well as in the Scarborough Evening News, and also our club's notice board.

6th June 2005 - Hardware problems have now been resolved with my system. Timings for our A & B gala [it's nearly that time again!] have now been posted for our visiting club's benefit
Paul Hargreaves, 15, has enjoyed some great swimming at Stoke, with Open water swimming starting - even with the poor temperatures. Read about the early successes.
17th June 2005 - Another busy time for the club.The A&B Gala is again with us - tomorrow - Welcome to all our visitors - Weather is forecast to be HOT!
Our swimmers have been busy, especially the open water ones. You can read all about their exploits on the Open water page. They competed in the British 10km Champs / 3km Champs / Budworth Mere / Wykeham Lake / Ivan Perceval Trophy. We have also had swimmers competing at the NECASA Age Group Championships too. Many of our swimmers will be taking part in our A&B Gala too. Report to follow.
18th June 2005 - I had hoped to get the first day's results up on the web, but now it will have to wait until tomorrow evening before the results go up.

On behalf of the club, we thank all the teams that came to the seaside, and hope that you had a good weekend. The weather held good for us too. 21st June 2005 - The record page is now updated for the A & B gala, and a report for Scarborough based swimmers is now available - Well done to all our swimmers.
27th June 2005 - Our thoughts now turn to the other gala that our club helps run, and that is the 2nd Sprints Meet which takes place on Saturday 10th September 2005. This Charity event, helped raise over £1100 last year, and we are hoping to do better this time around. Entry forms and Information are available. The cut-off is 1st August, but interest in this gala is expected to be high, and you are encouraged to get your entries in early. Please note that we have reduced the entry cost to £2.00 [from 3.50] for this event.
5th July 2005 - The programme for the Sprint Gala is available. We have had a most successful NECASA Open Water Grand Prix event at Wykeham Lakes on 2nd/3rd July. Medal winners were: Emma Couch, Aaron Yeoman, James Sowersby and Marc Slack- well done to them. A report can be found at the link for Wykeham Lakes, as well as photographs.
8th July 2005 - The Programme for the Sprint Gala has been changed. The same events are taking place, but the order has been revised. Please check.
The report from the most successful Open water grand prix event at Wykeham is now available.
17th July 2005 - The club have emphatically won the second Ridings Gala held last night at the Indoor Pool. Result is: 1st Scarborough 151pts, 2nd Kingfishers 136pts, 3rd South Holderness 113pts, 4th New Earswick 71pts. We two galas to come in this year's championship, Scarborough must now be considered favourites to win back the title from Kingfishers who clinched the league by one point last year. Well Done! - Report to follow in due course. Congratulations to record breakers, Gareth Mills and Paul Hargreaves, with Paul taking Jon Cheshire's ten year old 50m Breaststroke record to a new low of 31.25 [from 31.31] and Gareth lowering his own 50m Butterfly to 33.50. [from 33.58] which he had set in April of this year. Kingfisher's Nathan Renshaw also lowered his own record during the 50m Fly to 26.32 - the 4th time he has broken the record in succession during the past two seasons.
Two of our swimmers have been competing in the British Open water Grand Prix event today at Bosworth Water in the Midlands. Last year's Midlands Champion, Aaron Yeoman, and newcomer to Bosworth, Marc Slack took part. Aaron finished in 4th place in the 5km event, just squeezed out of the medals in the final 10 metres. Marc, although suffering from a chest infection, did well in the 1500m Men's event, and came in 10th place for 12-16 year age group. Report and Photo's available. 24th July 2005 - Our Charity Sprint Gala on 10th September has had the entry date extended to the 10th August 2005 in order to assist clubs in getting their entries submitted in time.
1st August 2005 - For Open Water fans out there, Alan Bircher, the British Number 1, was beaten by British Number 2, David Proud in the 10km European Openwater Cup in Bled, Slovenia on the 30th July. British Number 3, Jamie Forrest was only a bit behind Bircher. Results: Proud 7th 1:55.25, Bircher 12th 1:56.35, Forrest 14th 1:56.50. Even with 100km per week training, a win cannot be guaranteed for Bircher.
The British Agegroups have got underway in Sheffield, with Gareth and Laurence Mills and Ross Glegg representing Hull, with the Championships ending tomorrow.
Good news is that Gareth Mills reached the final of the 12 years 100m Butterfly where he was placed 8th with a time of 1:09.81. Nationally, he is placed 7th as the winner of the event, Heinrich Alberts is South African. Gareth just missed out on a second final in the 200m Butterfly when he finished in 13th place in a time of 2:36.52.
Laurence Mills was part of the successful Kingston-upon-Hull 4 x 100m Relay team which won the Gold Medal in 3:46.61. Laurence was instrumental in getting the team to the final, when he swam 58:08 in the semi-final for his 100m leg of the race. However, in the final his place was taken by Daniel Warrener, but Laurence will still receive a Gold medal as part of the Medal-winning Squad.
Other results were: Boys 11/14 Years 400m Freestyle; Laurence Mills 42nd 4:34.50. Gareth Mills 40th, 4:56.34. Ross Glegg took part in the 1500m freestyle where he was 41st in a time of 19:37.20.
Paul Hargreaves with be flying the Scarborough Flag between the 4th – 9th August when he takes part in the ASA National Youth Championships/Commonwealth Trials also held at Sheffield.
Aaron Yeoman will be in Open water Grand Prix action competing in Salford Quays, Manchester on the 6th August, where a reasonable result will see him qualify for the British Open Water Grand Prix Final on August 27th in Holme Pierrepont, which is run concurrently with the British 5km Openwater Championships.
3rd August 2005 - Swimmers were in action at the annual Llyn Padarn event in North Wales. Report and photo can be found on the Open water webpage. Full Results here. Results thanks to David Reason, Howe Bridge Masters.
7th August 2005 - Aaron Yeoman brought home the Silver medal in the Northern Counties Open Water Championships in Salford, beating off strong competition from Omar Hussain (Bradford) and Daniel Mason (Southend), and has now moved into second place in the British Open Water Grand Prix race. He will now compete in the British Open Water 5Km and Grand Prix Final at Holme Pierrepont on August 27th. Report from the Nationals in Sheffield, where Laurence and Gareth Mills, along with Ross Glegg and Paul Hargreaves have been swimming.
11th August 2005 - Report from the successful Warrington Dolphins Royal Albert Dock Championships, where Scarborough swimmers made a clean sweep of the silverware. Read the report here, and see the photograph.
24th August 2005 - Six swimmers will be making their way to Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham for this year's British 5Km and Agegroup Championships. The 5 Km event is also the Grand Final of the Open Water Grand Prix series, which see's Aaron Yeoman in second place. Adam Harvey will also be taking part. Those taking part in the agegroups are: Sarah Roberts, Amii Pettitt, Emma Couch and Marc Slack. We wish them well.
On Bank Holiday Monday, 29th August, the Les Rouse Handicap swim and BBQ will take place at Wykeham Lake.
30th August 2005 - Aaron Yeoman struck Bronze at the British Open Water 5km Championships held at Holme Pierrepont Nottingham and also scooped the £200 cash prize for runner-up in the Open water Grand Prix event.
Wonderful weather greeted swimmers and parents alike at Wykeham lakes yesterday, where a dozen or so swimmers enjoyed a good swim in the Annual Les Rouse Handicap race. Report to follow.
10th September 2005 - The last of the open water swims were recently held, with the Les Rouse handicap swim, and Adam Harvey winning the BLDSA 10.5 Mile Lake Windermere swim. Read the two reports on our open water page.
Our swimmers have now returned to the pool, with the majority having some rest during the summer. They will now focus their attentions to Club Championship events, and get swim fit to tackle the remaining Ridings League Galas.
11th September 2005 - Aaron Yeoman competed for BJ's Fitness Club in this year's Scarborough Triathlon. Greg Mills also took on the swim leg for one of the BJ's teams. It was Yeoman who immerged in first place in the sea swim, to hand over to his teammate, an healthy two minute lead on the next swimmer. See the photos and read the report here.
30th September 2005 - The club has started to get busy again. Swimmers have been in action during the ESSA [Schools] Regional Championships at the Ennerdale Pool, Hull. As soon as the results become available, a report will appear on these pages. Our Master swimmers have been waving the Scarborough flag at the North Eastern Counties Masters Championships, where a good number of medals were won, showing that our 19- Thirty-somethings are still performing at a high level of achievement. 4th/6th October 2005 - The following swimmers have been selected to represent the Region when they swim at the English Schools National Championships at Manchester on 21/22nd October 2005. The club has achieved a good reputation for getting swimmers to the School Nationals over the years. Those swimmers are: Gareth Mills, Butterfly, Paul Hargreaves, IM, Laurence Mills as part of the relay team, with Alistair Mills performing one of the team manager's role.
It has been disappointing however, to see that the ESSA website has not put up the results from the Regional Finals held at the Ennerdale Pool in Hull on the 17th September. I managed to get myself a copy of the results and the report generated can be found here.
The club had a resounding victory in the Ridings Division 1 gala held at Thirsk on Saturday night. The third win out of three galas so far held, means they cannot be caught in the championships, and have regained the Champions' slot back from Kingfishers, who just managed to grab the win in the final gala last year. 11th October 2005 - Twelve swimmers made their way to Sheffield's Ponds Forge swimming pool this last weekend for the Yorkshire Winter Championships and came away with a magnificent haul of 5 Golds, 2 Silvers and 1 Bronze medal, as well as making 14 finals and many personal bests. 23rd October 2005 - Lots of things have been happening at our club recently. With the AGM about to take place on the 2nd December, with the new committee being elected. As the position of Press Officer is now available, anyone who wishes to take on this role is asked to contact the Club Secretary at the earliest opportunity.
If anyone has reports which they would like published on this website, please forward them to me for consideration. Please remember - This website is run for it's members, and if members want something to read at each visit, then information, especially gala results must be made available to the webmaster of our club.
Three swimmers went to the Inter-divisional Schools Championships held in Manchester on the 21st/22nd, with Paul Hargreaves winning a magnificent bronze medal in the 200m IM. Laurence and Gareth Mills also took part. Paul is now off to Loughborough where he will take part in a week long training programme with the England Swimming Team!
The First Gala of the Ridings Championships were held last evening at our Indoor Pool. Please find the complete set of results here. In all, there were 24 PB's made by our swimmers, with the Mills' brothers breaking two records, Gareth winning the 12 year's 50m Butterfly (taking Laurence's old record) and Laurence winning the 14 year's 100m Backstroke (Taking Alistair's record from 1999) The club won nine Golds, five silver and one bronze medal in this first of two Galas. A report will appear on this website in due course. Kingfisher's Claire Jackson took another record during the championships. Have a quick look at what club's won what medals. 25th October 2005 - A very small report has been written regarding our 4th and final gala at New Earwick held on the 15th October. We came 4th in this gala, but had already won the League before going to New Earwick's twenty metre pool.
Our thoughts will soon be focused on next year's A&B Gala, which will be held over weekend 17/18th June 2006. Once again, the format will consist of 4 sessions. Date for your diary will be the Kingfishers 1st Gala which will be held on March 11th 2006. It is an B & C grade gala, so it will be an opportunity for our younger swimmers to get amongst the medals.
26th October 2005 - We will be joined by Bridlington in Division 1 of the Ridings next year, with New Earswick slipping into Division 2. Whitby Seals have been promoted from the 3rd Division. 28th October 2005 - Our swimmers participation in the Ridings League Championships - Gala 1, can now be read. Don't forget, the second gala is on the 19th November.
Good News has also come in that Coach Jon Cheshire, and Vicky Terry and both been selected to compete in the ASA National Masters Inter County Competition on the 20th November. You are already reminded that there will be a photo shoot for both Jon and the Victorious Ridings team on Monday 31st October at 1645 sharp. Remember your red tee-shirts and hats please.
Since 1980, Scarborough have won the Ridings Division One title no fewer than fifteen times, with the nearest club, Bishop Auckland winning the title just 3 times back in the early nineties. By way of contrast, Kingfishers have won the title just once in their 25 year history.
1st November 2005 - Adam Harvey was the club's sole representative at the ASA Masters Short course championships held at Sheffields Ponds Forge over the last weekend. Well done to Adam for winning 2 Gold medals and 1 bronze medal.

13th November 2005 - Your's truly has been away all week with business. There is a report out for the ASANER Agegroup Championships, and there is good news for Gareth Mills in his selection to attend a Yorkshire Intense Training camp next February on Spain's Costa del Sol - Well done Gareth! 27th November 2005 - With the run-in to Christmas well and truely with us, the club still remains busy, with swimmers taking part in the Second Gala of the Ridings League Championship. The club championships has also been in full flow with more new records being set. The complete list of results are available, and if you want me to send you a copy, please just ask. If I have time, there will be a report written. Club Swimmers have been at the Scarborough & District Sports awards, with Gareth and Laurence Mills winning their respective agegroups, with Aaron Yeoman the runner-up in the top male achiever catorgory - Well done to them all!

Our club ended with 40 medals in all, with our neighbours, Kingfishers getting 36 medals. Our tally was 22 Golds, 8 Silvers and 10 Bronze medals. 4th December 2005 - The end of the year gets nearer and nearer, and our thoughts now move to getting down the shops and get those Christmas presents! There is no excuse now, especially as the pool is now closed until 27th December for annual cleaning!
Paul Hargreaves recently went to the ASANER Long course Senior&Junior Championships in Leeds and came away with two silver and one bronze medal, along with a National qualifying time from the four finals he qualified for. Well done to Paul and more can be found here.
17th December 2005 - The club has recently learned of the sad death of Kingston Upon Hull Coach, Darren West. Many of our parents and pool staff will recognise Darren. He died suddenly following a heart attack - aged 41.
Our thoughts got to his family, especially at this time of year.
The club recently held what will be it's final ever presentation night held at the Corner cafe before it is knocked down sometime next year. All the winners from the club championships as well as from the Open Water season, were presented with their cups and medals, and a most successful disco entertained both young and old during the evening.
