22/1/2001 - Welcome to a brand new year! Various pages have been updated, namely the gala-dates page, as well as the male and female rankings pages. So get your diary up to date! The various league's page has also been updated for 2001. Gala reports will be found here. Last year's gala results can be found here. More about last year's Ridings results and this year's teams. There is more to come, but I want to get something updated. Keep looking at this page for further updates. Why not put your e-mail address in the form above, and let 'netmind' inform you when the page changes. Keep on swimming......Paul Y

01/2/2001- I have completely updated the details for our A/B grade Gala on June 9th/10th. Just hit the link will take you there. There will soon be the first Gala report of the year, but the results of our first Pocklington League Division one match can be found here. It is an Microsoft Excel document, and it is in zipped form, so you will require Winzip if you don't already have it. I have also added 1500 metre times to our Rankings page. Our gala is the Ridings Division 3 for the 'Storm' team, and we will be in Driffield for Saturday 3rd February... see you there..perhaps...I'm the Referee!...Paul Y.

25/2/2001- Hi Again. I've added further changes to the Male Rankings page - namely the 5km/3km and some other time changes. I've also had a go at the Girl's Rankings this time too. The Ridings Division 3 report from 3rd February is now available. Harrogate swimming club have changed their website address. My son Aaron has just come back from a holiday trip to London, where he trained with Hatfield Swimming Club. Many of you may know Nick Juba their coach from his days with York. They have a number of top class swimmers based there. Check out their website. A report will soon appear for the Friendly league which Scarborough won on the 24th February. A report can be found for the National 5km swim which took place at Coventry on 17th February. More to come soon......Paul Y.

01/03/2001 - Friendly Gala report has now been added. (24th February) The National 5km swim report, (link above,) has also been updated. I've also provided links to the various gala reports from the results page. That's about it for now folks... Paul Y.

16/03/2001 - Next friendly Gala report added.(10th March) Ridings Division 1 also from the 10th March is also created, and the results have been included on, would you believe, the results page! I need to update the under 13's swimming times soon, so look out for that here.. Many of you may be aware that the club will be hosting an International Grand Prix Open Water swimming event on the 1st/2nd September. More details will appear on the website when they become known. We also intend to run a Open - Open water Gala at Wykeham Lakes again this year. Once again, more details will appear here when details are available. The event will be also be advertised on other websites too. More soon........Paul Y.

17/04/2001 - The last friendly league gala before the autumn batch took place recently, and the report can be found here.

Preparations have continued with our A/B grade Gala on the 9th/10th June, and anyone thinking about entering this event are advised that the cut off date is rapidly advancing. The cut-off date is the 5th May 2001. Entry forms for the event can still be obtained from the Open webpage. Six of our swimmers have been selected to train at the first National Open Water Training Camp at Birmingham between the 20th and 22nd April. Congratulations go to: Katie Sowersby, Aaron Yeoman, Adam Harvey, Matthew Kaiser, Sean Hodgson and Julie Owen. Reports on their progress will appear here later. We have also had many swimmers competing in the Yorkshires both at Leeds and Harrogate. It is very pleasing to see our club have so many swimmers participating at these championships.

That's about for now folks. Oh yes, I have recently purchased a digital camera and hope to add some photographs to our website in the near future. Now, where's that instruction manual...

15/5/2001 - Back again with further updates. I've been very busy with Open University work again, but that's the excuses over, and I've updated reports for Ridings League Gala's in both Division 1 and 3. Updated our swimmers times page, although there are still some times to be amended. There is also reports for the Harrogate Spa Gala and Yorkshire long distance meet. There are a few pictures taken with the above mentioned digital camera, and I have other images to put on the site taken from the recent weekend's NECASA Long distance gala held in Sheffield. Our medal winners from this meet were Andrew Hogg, Matthew Kaiser, Aaron Yeoman and Katie Sowersby. Reports will appear here soon from this meet. Until later then......

19/5/2001 - Hey! How about that then, two updates in a week! Must be worth a medal. Report from Sheffield's Long Course Champ's from 19th/20th May, with photo's have now been uploaded. Our swimmers are also competing at the Age Group championships as I type this report (19th) so that will, no doubt, generate another update. I've been struggling with results from the Ridings Division 2, if anyone has any results, I would be most welcome for them, plus too, any results from Division's 2 and 3 of the Pocklington League. Be good until next time.... Paul Y.

03/06/2001 - Another update from the Cornishman exiled here in Yorkshire! I have managed to add one result to the Ridings Div' 2 page, plus added the Div' 1 result from last night (2nd) The club suffered a rare home defeat to the hands of Thirsk, but they did not have it quite all their own way as Scarborough were the early pacesetters, but lost out in the second have of the draw. Yours truly was the Referee, and what a good gala it was too (except the bit where we come second!) The league report will appear in a few days, as will some updates to the swimmer's times page. A number of our swimmers are taking the National Life Guard exam' this evening, so we wish them well. I will now publish this page, and added more - with luck - tomorrow. 'Bis Morgan' as the Germans would say....Paul Y.

04/06/2001 - As promised, I have now produced a gala report for the ridings division 1 gala held on the 2nd June. It still isn't quite complete, but I did want to get something published onto the website. News on our Life Guards - They all passed! Hearty congratulations go to: Aaron Yeoman, Adam Harvey, Mark Hepples and Alistair Mills. The course does take quite a number of months to complete, culminating in a fairly stiff exam at the end. Yes! they is something in the rumour that our Swimming club is providing most of the Lifeguards in the Town! I have also updated the boys' swimming times to reflect the times I know - If anyone has any times for their swimmer that isn't displayed, please feel free to e-mail me at the address below. For those of you who haven't been to the ASA'S website recently, you will find that Open water information is now appearing, and there is an interesting article on the new 'Skins format' which has been on display at the recent Gala's held at Manchester. This is where swimmers compete against each other over seven 50 metre heats, and at each round, one swimmer is eliminated until there are just two swimmers left going head to head. They have only three minutes between races! The article, and others, can be found on the ASA's website. I have also updated the open water page, which has links to open water training advice, plus I hope to keep it up to date during the open water season. Until later then....Paul Y

10/6/2001 - I just wanted to pop the results from this weekend's gala straight onto the web, so that you can read/download the full set of results. (Word document.) I am pleased to announce that our annual event went exceedingly well, and it was good to see so many old friends once again (Barnsley - you will have to continue to block book that hotel!) (Sorry I didn't get to speak with you Ian (Bradford Dolphins) Thanks for the kind regards.) It was nice to see our 'southern' visitors, St Neots, and new friends, Hatfield - You are most welcome. Not forgetting our near neighbours, Kingfishers, New Earswick, and many other clubs. Sorry to all those clubs who couldn't get in the gala. Each year our gala is getting more and more popular, and since we have been advertising the meet on the Internet, we fill the gala even quicker! My I suggest you keep visiting our website - especially after Christmas, as the details of next year's gala will appear mid to late January, and I would therefore recommend you visit the site regularly. In the fullness of time, there will be a gala report too, I do hope that I can put something out tomorrow - 11th) Until then...Paul Y

16/6/2001 - As you can see, I didn't get a report onto the web until today. It can be found here. We are off to Nottingham later today, where some of the swimmers, my son included, is swimming in the National Open water championships at Holme Pierreponte. More news on their progress later......Paul Y

12/7/2001 - Quite a bit of open water swimming has taken place this last month or so. I can report that our swimmers came away with two national medals from the Open water championships. Katie Sowersby received the Junior Gold 3km Medal, and Aaron Yeoman achieved the Junior Bronze 3km Medallion. In the 5km senior event, we had 3 swimmers in the top ten, and 1 female in the top five. The report can be found here. Adam Harvey went on to represent Great Britain in an Open Water 5km event held in Marseilles, France. Full report here. I've also been busy updating the Ridings Records, and for the first time, have included all three division's records. ( Division 1, Division 2, Division 3) I have also updated our swimmer's PB Page - the lads anyway!

We shall be holding our annual Open Water event at Wykeham Lakes probably over the weekend of August 26th or 27th (Monday) The date has yet, not been finalised, but the likely distances involved will be: 5km, 3km and probably 1km for novices. I would ask that anyone who is interest in the above event, please e-mail at the earliest opportunity, and I will send you all the details as soon as they become available. The most likely date will be the Monday bank holiday 27th August. Get your emails off!

I do have a number of photo's to put on our website too, these were taken from various events this year - this will be the next project to complete.

Many of our Open Water swimmers are involved during the weekend 14th/15th July, swimming in the Grand Prix open water series of 5km and 10km swims. They will be swimming in Wykeham on Saturday, and the North Bay here in Scarborough on Sunday. Both are 5km swims.

Aaron Yeoman won the club 1500m championships, in the very fast time of 17 minutes 12.09 seconds. A report will appear eventually. Nathan Renshaw also won the 200m race.

Updated league (Pock's and Ridings) results, thanks to Dave Cuthbert of Doncaster Dartes SC.

15/7/2001 - Just a quick update for you. A number of our swimmers were involved in the Grand Prix Open Water events over the weekend. A report will appear in due course, but quick results were as follows:

14th July - Lake Swim, 3rd Adam Harvey, 4th Aaron Yeoman, 5th Nathan Renshaw, 6th Sean Hodgson. 1st Junior Girl - Katie Sowersby - Well done to you all!

15th July - Sea Swim - 3rd Adam Harvey, 4th Nathan Renshaw, 5th Aaron Yeoman, 6th Sean Hodgson. Katie again won the Junior swim. Well done to you for swimming in very cold water and a very heavy sea!

Our very own Open Water event now has a date and it's own page! You will be able to find downloadable entry forms here too! The date for your diary is Sunday 26th August 2001. Please get your entries in as early as possible.

Pocklington Times League Division 1 meet last evening, (14th) resulted in the following: 1st Adwick 131pts, 2nd Scarborough 118pts, 3rd Askern 117pts, and 4th New Earswick 113pts.

That's it now folks - sorry that this page is getting longer and longer - I must get a link to the top of the page!...Paul Y

11/9/2001 - It would seem that each new entry on this page, I seem to be apologising. Once again, the main culprit for the lack of updating it the old favourite - Open University. You may well be pleased to note [I am!] that the course finishes on October 6th, and therefore I shall be in a better position to upgrade the site more regular. That said, on with the updating that I have managed to get around to!

There has been much activity in the Open Water section throughout the summer months, and more can be found on the open water page. I have had a small attempt to updating our swimmer's records, but there is still much to do in this area. You can have a look at the times - I know there will be quite a few entered wrongly, but I need your update if you wish them to be entered correctly! I managed to get a Salford Quays Open Water event put on the web, but I do have numerous digital photo's from all the open water events to put up yet. Once again, I indulge your patience while I complete my OU course, and I will eventually get the pages up to date.......Paul Y

11/10/2001 - Is is really a month gone by since I last visited these pages!? You may be glad to know that I have now finished my Open University course [results in December!] and therefore I will actually have some more time on my hands to update these pages. The final British 5km Open Water Grand Prix event at Albert Docks took place, as well as the FINA 10km Super cup event. Aaron and Adam were in the Grand Prix event, and Sean Hodgson and Katie Sowersby were in the 10km event. Why not visit the Open water page.

The Open water season has now come to an end for another year, and what was to have been the 'jewel in the crown' of Open Water, where many of our swimmers were to take part, - The LEN Grand Prix Final, here in the North Bay Scarborough, turned out to be something of a fiasco. There was some debate over water temperature, and some confusion between metric and imperial measurements, and the 5km event was cancelled, but enough said on this sore subject.

We have had our first Gala since the summer layoff - Ridings Division 1 league event at South Holderness. Scarborough came second, read the full report. Champions of the Ridings Div' 1 are Thirsk White Horse - Well done to them!

The boys and girls club championship pages have also been revamped slightly. Of course, we have just had our club champs, so there will be a number of records that will change. I'm still waiting for the official results list. I'm also working on the Open Water photographs, so please have patience with me! I've also revamped the results pages up too - but not-a-lot!

More coming soon! Paul Y.....

18/10/01 - The results of the Annual Club championships can be downloaded here. You are reminded that it is a zip file, containing a Microsoft Excel File. I've finally put a few photos up, from our Open Water season. I've also updated the club championship records, reflecting this year's competition, links as per the entry for 10th October, as well as the club ranking's pages . Another job I've done some work on is the Junior times page. This page is for the Under 13's, so have a look at it. The job of web master is never really completed, as there is always something to be getting on with. I also provide the reports for our local paper - The Scarborough Evening News - who so kindly publishes the reports. Medals presentations to be held at the Quid's Inn on the 23rd October, please ensure you get your trophies back to the club by then - please. That's about it for now folks, speak again soon.......Paul Y

22/11/2001 - Where do the days and weeks go? Another month has gone, and Christmas is almost upon us [Great! I hear you say! - That's the swimmers anyway!]

The club has been busy in the water this past month. We have been involved with the NECASA 3km and Short course championships in Middlesbrough [3rd/4th November] Both teams have been competing in the Ridings leagues, and congratulations go to both our teams for securing runners-up slots in Division 1 and 3 respectfully! Our swimmers have also been busy in the Ridings championships [11th/17th] and these events have seen the lowering of championship records again. Our swimmers have also been lowering their own personal best times, and I promise to get pages up to date as soon as possible [it would help if I had your new times though!]

Two of our swimmers have been involved with the School's Divisional finals held this year at Sheffield - Well done Aaron Yeoman and Alistair Mills.

I have been able to secure the results from five years of our graded gala, and I intend to go through them and put up the best times for the A grade [which in effect in an Open ended grade] and these records I hope to have published in next year's Graded meet programme. There will be more upgrading over the next few days, but that is it for now folks......Paul Y.Home
