The majority of our swimmers with compete in BLDSA events, with the exception of a few, more seasoned and experienced members, who will enter the British ASA Open Water Championships , as well other ASA organised events.

The 2007 season is almost upon us, and our swimmers take to the water at Wykeham Lakes for the first time on Wednesday 9th May.

Open Water News - Wykeham Lakes - 16th May 2007

Scarborough Swimming Club took to the freezing waters of Wykeham lakes for the first time this year on Wednesday evening. With the drizzle coming down from the grey sky only 3 hardy souls managed to take to the water; Adam Harvey, Sarah Roberts and Marc Slack. Emma Couch made a brave attempt to get in but the numbing cold of the water was too much.

In 2007, Scarborough Swimming Club is going to miss two of its top open water swimmers. James Sowersby joined the Army at the end of April to begin his training as a Technical Engineer. Aaron Yeoman moved to London and is now employed by Virgin Trains in the Capital. They will be missed by all and everyone wishes them the best of luck for the future.
The club have many of its swimmers competing in different Open Water events throughout the country and will be competing from now up until the end of August, with the first event taking place this forthcoming weekend.
Training is currently taking place down at Wykeham Lakes on a Wednesday evening at 6.30pm so if your interested why not come down to see for yourself or for further information speak to the front desk on a Thursday night.

ASANER Open Water Championships - 3.75Km - Wykeham Lake 14th July 2007

There was an abundance of medals won by our club swimmers in the open water event in which a dozen medals were taken home by the intrepid swimmers who did exceptionally well to battle the very un-summer like weather conditions. Due to the extremely powerful wind, the organisors decided to cut the event down from 5Km to 3.75Km (3 Laps of the Lake) The two favourites of the male and female events, James Leitch (City of Glasgow) and Erica Brown (Chesterfield) are no strangers to Wykeham, and our very own swimmers certainly gave a excellent account of themselves and indeed, Julie Owen upset the form book with a great win in the Ladies race when she forged ahead early in the race to hold off the challenge of both Brown and club mate Sarah Roberts. Julie eventually winning in 48.23, taking both the Yorkshire and Regional Gold medal and the Grand Prix's 22 points with Erica Brown taking the Silver medal in 50.02 and Sarah Roberts the Bronze Regional and Yorkshire Silver medal in 53.07 The men's race was an exciting affair with the club's Adam Harvey taking an early lead to take pole position for over half the race. James Leitch started to attack Adam at the 2Km mark, and eventually took the lead to take the Gold medal in 46.36, with Adam Harvey winning the Regional and Yorkshire Gold medals to finish in 2nd place in a time of 47.42, and collecting 19 Grand Prix points along the way.

Another winner was David Mort taking the Silver Regional medal and Yorkshire Gold in the Junior Male 1.25Km event coming home in 2nd place in 20.37, and with newcomer Tom Venner doing exceptionally well to win the Bronze Regional and Yorkshire Silver medal finishing in 3rd place with a time of 24.40. Emma Couch did very well against the elements and claimed both Regional and Yorkshire Bronze medals when she came 3rd in the Junior Female 1.25Km race in a time of 19.29.
