David Stewart,(D.C) was cook.he used to make great skate & chips that everyone loved.One time we were into good fishing. At night we left the boat over the broad to dodge back to the same area for morning.When towing the first haul I noticed a footprint on the roof of the wheelhouse.Someone had been trying to sleep when on watch and left the footprint when getting comfy.The crew were on deck so I went And looked at their shoes,D.C. was a perfect match.When the crew came in I called them into the wheelhouse and showed them the footprint.Noboby had done it,them I lifted the shoe with the matching tread and asked D.C to explain why he had been sleeping when he should be looking for boats.Quick as a flash he turned to the rest of the crew and said.Who was wearing shoes last night!!! ......................... James Buchan(Bucko)was a man of caracter.He was always up to tricks.With D.C as his sidekick there was never a dull moment.The first time I found out what he was like.he fell into the harbour.when we took him up to the hospital the nurse knew him and said,Not in the harbour again,We cannot give you any more tetnus jabs you've already had enough to keep an Elephant going for ten years!!! ............................ Bucko could never get the fish tally correct.He now works in peterhead market and is still getting fish tallies wrong.Anyway the last trip of the Victory we arrived at Peterhead market early evening to get 2nd place.( best for prices).We decided to go to the Union with the new owner(Baird)who had been with us the last 6 trips.We came back at midnight to discover Bucko had not booked us into the market so we had lost our place and just made it in at the end of the market to get the sales.Ike was not a patient man and was easy to fly off the handle.Bucko Knew this and dissapeared down the fishroom to keep out of harm's way.We landed,scrubbed and moored up the boat when I asked where Bucko was?Last seen was down the fishroom 5 hours ago.He had fallen asleep in the ice locker when landing.The lumpers just left him.He should have had frostbite when we got him out of the ice!!! ............................. One day we came into Kinlochbervie to land our fish.we needed transport home and as Andrew(nephew)Cambell had sold his boat to go to be a teacher the previous year,he volanteered to pick us up in our van and take us home.We landed ,cleaned up got into the van and took off,When on the A9.we decided to stop at the Shaydwick Inn for something to eat.We had our meal,one or two drinks?and phoned the marked to discover we got good prices so everyone was in a good mood.(even Ike).With Andrew driving we set off for home the rest of us well partied. when Duggie asked nephew if he regretted selling his boat and missing good times like this.He growled no and if I had this crew he would have sold the boat years before he did!!!
