This is the projector for screen 1 (the auditorium decorated with blue furnishings). As well as the projection tower (which you can just see at the far right of the photograph), there was also a projection platter, or 'cakestand' on which the film lies flat rather than upright (on the left of the photograph). This projection room was on the highest floor of the building. There is a window at floor level directly behind the projector. Thankfully, nobody ever fell out. |

Ladder. Make your way to the right and see the ladders which lead down to projection room 2 and the popcorn loft. Change View. Move over to the left of the projection room and view the projector from there. Window. Directly behind the projector is a window that looks out into the light well between the cinema and the Theatre Royal. Screen 1. Just to the left of the platter is the fire exit that leads into screen 1. |
