![]() INTRODUCTION In this section of the website, I have presented all the facts (and rumours!) that I have discovered (or deduced) about the Robins Cinema building situated in St John's Place, Bath. By clicking on any of the thumbnail images you will see the full size photograph and a tiny bit more information. As you can see, there isn't alot here at the moment, but hopefully visitors to this site will be able to help out in this department by providing old accounts of the building in the past or even perhaps, some old photographs. |
The Robins Cinema The Robins Cinema first opened its doors in 1990 and eventually closed down some thirteen years later on January 18th 2004. When the building was taken over from the previous cinema owners by Robins Cinemas Ltd, it was fully refurbished for its grand re-opening. The first thumbnail below is a photograph of the building one month after the Robins Cinema closed. The second thumbnail shows an old poster showing details of a cinema performance from yester year. The Gemini Cinema The Gemini Cinema was a privately owned establishment run by a husband and wife team. The Gemini cinema opened in 1979 and finally closed its doors in 1990 after being sold to the Robins Cinema chain. Evidence of the past The exterior of the building itself displays some intriguing clues regarding the past of the building. On the side of the building, right at the top, the year 1889 can clearly be seen carved into the decorative centre piece (click on the centre thumbnail below to take a look). On the front of the building there are two other interesting clues. Click on the left and right thumbnails below to take a look. |
