I went into hospital when i was 1 day before my 19th week of being pregnant. i woke in the middle of the night with a feeling of being wet and when i reached under the covers to find out what it was my hand came up looking all dark, i turned on the light to find out what it was to my horror it was blood! It was 2.30am and i screemed the house down thinking i was loosing the baby for a second time, it was like history repeting its self from the year 2000 when i lost my little boy at 4 months pregnant. by the time the ambulance got there i had lost so much blood that the had to put me 3 pints back in when i got to the hospital, they told me it was a condition called placenta previa and it was life thretening to me, but the baby seemed to be ok, so it was my blood that i was loosing from my side of the placenta. I was in hospital for 11 weeks. I went into labour 3 times, twice they stopped it but the last time he was on his way for sure. so pints of blood lost then given back to me, and scars all over my hands and up my arms made me look like i was a drug victim. and for the last 2 weeks i wasnt able to get out of bed only to go to the toilet and back. this all combined with me being in hospital for so many weeks made it hard on me and my husband and daughter of only 21 months old. its heart breaking when your little one wants you to pick them up and give them a cuddle but you cant for fear of bleeding and going back onto the labour ward for a few days incase baby comes. when i got to 27 weeks +6 thats when the real party time happened i lost all the waters from around the baby and i started getting pains from 6am, they started off as bareable but i knew from the moment they started that the time had come, i sort of got a gut feeling inside that the baby was going to be here that day. By the time it got to 11am and the pains got to 2 min appart they told me that i had to be preped for theatre just in case they had to do a c-section on me. So they shaved my bikini line and put on this little open backed robe and called in my husband to ask him to try and get a sitter for our daughter clarice who was too young to understand why mummy was in so much pain and was crying along with her. He told me that he would take her to the nursary and ask them to have her for that day instead of the next and that he would be back in 5 min, i felt this was ok as it would take me some time to get to know what was happening any way so off he went but little did he know that they wisked me down to theature and before i could ask what was going on the had put me to sleep and delivered our baby boy within the 5 min it took my husband to get back. i woke up and they told me that the baby was fine and over on "scbu"(specal care baby unit) and that he weighed only 2lb 5oz, but he seemed to be doing ok. the next day wasn't that good they told me and my husband that he was going to die if they didn't get him to the best scbu they could which was 30 miles away in Leeds, but he may not make the trip in the ambulance and that did we want to get him blessed by vicar, this was the worst news anyone would have to handle and it all went with a blur really, but we got our family vicar to come give him his name (Bradie Frederic Joseph Gawn Graham) and they wisked him off to leeds, we are so glad that he didnt stay there for too long as i had to follow him and stay there which made it harder on me and my husband as it was a long way for him to come and see me and Bradie, but i was there 5 days, and Bradie was there for 9 days before he got moved over here again in to halifax royal. he is still there at the moment, and maybe for another few months to go yet as he keeps having breathing problems where he forgets to breathe when he is in a deep sleep, this is supposed to stop when that part of his brain develops at about 35 weeks. he is on 9mls of milk per hour and his weight is now 3lb 1oz, so hes getting a little fatty. thanks to all who visit this web site and i hope this can help for any one who is going through the same thing as us. feel free to e-mail me at the link provided. love Debbie,Joe,Clarice,Bradie xxx dated:3/10/03. he did have a condition that most premature baby's have called bradycardia, this means that when he goes into a deep sleep he forgets to breath for himself and has to be nudged in order to wake him up.this has now stopped, and he is doing it all by himself. he is out of the incubator now and in a cot. he is keeping his tempriture constant so doesnt need help with the incubator any more, dated:30/10/03
