Potty the Pirate (known as Doug Roberts to landlubbers) started performing magic tricks at the age of four. By the time he was eleven, he had started to appear in working men's clubs and charity events as a junior magician.

Potty is a graduate of the internationally acclaimed Maher School of Ventriloquism. He has had experience as a pantomime actor, opera singer, busker, photographer, and singing gondolier. He has also worked in promoting the leisure industry.

As well as a magician, Doug is an experienced singer and actor. When younger,he played many leading roles in both amateur and professional theatrical productions.
