PLAYER PROFILES:

Charlie Wright.
Goalkeeper.
Charlie was one of the founder members of the club. He had cat like reflexes and was as agile as a gazelle. His large frame charging out from goal put the fear of God into opposing players.During the inaugural season he, on many occasions, almost single handedly kept the goals against at a slightly less than embarassing level. He once conceded 13 goals in a game and was named man of the match. Charlie once saved a penalty from Stuart Windle, against Hardesty Drive, which he still talks about to this day. He still makes odd appearances for the Old Boys team.

Andrew Hodgson.
Striker.
Hodgy was a founder member of the club. He was deceptively quick and scored goals with almost every part of his anatomy. He could also be very clumsy but effective in front of goal. When he took out his front teeth he looked very fearsome.

Michael Dolan.
Midfield.
Michael was the midfield dynamo of the early team. He orchestrated the game from within the centre circle, usually with a can of beer in his hand. His half time bottles of wine became legendary.

Paul Richardson.
Utility Player.
Paul was a founder member of the club. He could play in any position and very often did just that. Stitch was good in the air, had electric pace, could score from anywhere and dribbled like a baby. His most famous goal was the cross against The Redworth Arms, in the clubs inaugural season, which the wind blew over the keeper and into the back of the net. Stitch was part of the backbone of the team.

Mark Richmond.
Midfield.
Scouse was the ginger kid in the team who always got man of the match. He was arguably the best player the team has had. Scouse had better vision then a hawk and could thread a ball through the eye of a needle. He could tackle, head the ball, dribble, use both feet and pass the ball over long and short distance with great accuracy. He always tried to keep things simple.

Chris Creamer.
Forward.
Chris was a gifted footballer who scored goals for fun. When Chris played you knew you were going to win the game. He was very skillful and could turn even the best defence inside out. he was brave and fearless and once burst a ball going into a tackle with a goalkeeper.Chris also played professional football as did his father, Peter Creamer.

Peter Creamer.
Centre Half.
Peter was a collosus at the heart of the defence. His experience proved invaluable in the 2nd Division Title winning season. He could read the game like a book and talked his team mates through the game. Peter played football professionally for, among others, Middlesbrough. He played alongside Greame Souness under Jack Charlton.

Paul Stones.
Centre Half.
Paul was a towering figure at the heart of the defence. He was fearless in the tackle and rose like a phoenix out of the ashes when challenging for the ball in the air. You could always tell when Stonesy was near, he sounded like Mickey Mouse on Helium. He gave the dodgy back pass which resulted in Baglin`s broken leg.

Paul Welch
Defender.
Squelchy was a brave defender who never let his head down or gave up on a game. He did, however, have a tendency to make rash challenges and give away stupid penalties. He is the son of ex manager Fred Welch. Squelchy has probably given away more penalties than any other player.

Gary Rogers.
Midfield.
Gary was the powerhouse in midfield. He was the hard man who never shirked a challenge. He was full of craft and guile though and He would fight to the bitter end to ensure a victory for the team.

PLAYER PROFILES.

Paul Dolan.
Right Wing.
Paul was one of the founder members of the club. He had pace and power in abundance, was two footed and posed an aerial threat. Paul`s maizy runs would make defenders dizzy. He was also a prolific goalscorer. He became known as "Toto" during the 1990 World Cup. He went on to manage the club when they won the second division title in 1995. After a brief spell in charge in 2001 he has again returned to try to weave his magic.

Peter Dolan.
Striker.
Peter was a towering centre forward who struck fear into opposing defences. What he lacked in pace he made up for in power and determination. His quick thinking and intelligent play led to many goals for his team mates.

Jonathon Wright.
Midfield.
Jonny was a founder member of the club and managed for a brief time. Son of Dave and brother of Kevin, Jonny is most famous for 3 things, Picking substitutes with blades of grass, an ingrowing two nil, and his"This is a ball" speech.

Ronnie King.
Right Back.
Ronnie played in the inaugural team in the twilight of his football career. He was nicknamed the ANIMAL due to his rather fearce tackling. Not many players got past Ronnie and few tried to get past him for fear of being seperated from their legs.

Steven Morland.
Midfield.
Steve was the grafter in midfield. What he lacked in ability he made up for in effort and endeavour. Somebody once said that if the telletubbies played football they would probably play like him. Steve`s finest hour and a half came in a game against The Miners Arms when he scored two goals and almost single handedly salvaged a point for the team. He was also a very good goalie. Steve now plays his football in Spain.

Dean Vasey.
Goalkeeper.
Dean was an outstanding goalkeeper who made very few mistakes. He was an excellent shot stopper and commanded his box with great efficiency. He would force strikers into making mistakes when in a one on one situation. Dean was also a very good centre half in his day.

Kevin Wright.
Striker.
Kevin was a prolific goalscorer and led the line effectively. He was very quick and good in the air. He is the son of Dave and brother of Jonathon.

Kieron Perry.
Centre Forward.
Kieron had the uncanny ability to score the most difficult goals yet miss the easiest of chances. In season 1993/1994 he was the clubs top goal scorer.

Dave Baglin.
Goalkeeper.
Dave only played 72 minutes for the club due to his leg being broken on his debut. He collided with an opposing player after a short backpass by Stones.

Barry Liddle.
Striker.
Barry had lightening quick pace and scored many goals. He was a handfull for any defence and never gave defenders a moments rest. If Barry had stayed at the club he could have become one of the all time greats.

Paul Shaw.
Centre Half.
Paul was an immense presence at the heart of the defence. His greatest game for the club was undoubtedly on 10th september 1995 when he scored a hatrick and was man of the match against the Wheatsheaf.

Scot Stainsby.
Striker/Midfield/Defence.
Scot is without doubt one of the clubs greatest ever players. He joined the club in 1992 and was a consistent perfomer untill he left for pastures new, after helping the club to its second second division title, in 2003.
During that time Scotty also managed the club for a season.
When Scot had the ball you knew he had the ability to make even the best defenders look like clowns. When the opposition had the ball Scot worked like a terrier to get it back. He could play in any outfield position to great effect, though sometimes his temperament and exessive tackling would let him down in defence.
Scot now plays his football for Evenwood Town in the Northern League.

PLAYER PROFILES.

Paul Anderson.
Left Back.
Paul was a founder member of the club. He was originaly the secretary and later the treasure. Paul was a solid defender who used his weight to his advantage. He was always willing to get forward and could strike a good dead ball with his left peg. Paul made the left back slot his own in 1994 when Bob Douthwaite was out, through injury.

Robert Douthwaite.
Left Back.
Bob was a no nonsense, tough tackling defender who had a never say die attitude and loved to attack at every available opportunity. He scored more own goals than any other player and was the clubs longest serving player. Bob had a spell as player manager and retired after 12 years with the club, in 2001.

Andrew Wharton.
Left Wing/Left Back.
Andrew was a founder member of the club. He was known as the"Wizard of the Wing" and his left foot was like a magic wand. He could deliver pin point accurate crosses and knew more tricks than Paul Daniels. He could unlock the tightest of defences and formed a water tight barrier in defence himself. He once cut his hair during a match because it was getting in his eyes. He scored his famous "Gullit" flicked goal with his head when he flicked his hair out of his eyes and made contact with the ball sending it past the keepers despairing dive. Andrew has had two successful stints as manager of the club. He took the club to the top of the 1st Division in his first spell in the hot seat and to their first cup final in his second.

Sal.
Right Wing.
What Wharton brought to the left wing Sal brought to the right wing. He was supremely skillful, pacey and fit. Sal once ran six miles to play a match, played the match, then ran six miles home. He came from the Gambia and was, allegedly, an ex Gambian international.

Andrew King.
Utility Player. Andrew played as a striker, a winger or a full back in his time at the club. Bif, as he was known, was the son of Ronnie the Animal. He wasn`t a regular starter, but was the super sub of the team, coming off the bench on many occasions.

Chris Priestly.
Goalkeeper.
Chris is commonly known as the vampire due to his disliking of crosses. He is a good shot stopper and is fearless when diving at the feet of an attacker. Chris played through great pain to ensure the team got to the B&A Trophy Final when he hurt his ribs in the semi final.

Craig Stevens.
Midfield.
Craig formed an inenviable partnership with Richmond in midfield. He was the model of consistency and always played the easy ball. Craig had a spell as manager of the team before leaving to manage The Green Tree.

Gary Blenkinsopp.
Right Back.
Gary was a strong, physical defender who took no nonsense. He liked to get forward down the line and was willing to go for goal.

Tommy Furness.
Right Wing.
Tommy was completely mad. He had great pace and was very explosive. Tommy scored a number of goals for the club, though his crossing was suspect. If Tommy got to the by line you had to go to the front post because he couldn`t reach the back post.

Michael Ritson.
Midfield.
Micheal started his cereer at right back but soon developed into an outstanding midfield player. He would cover every blade of grass in a game and never shirked a challenge.
