Since entering the Spennymoor and District Sunday Morning Football League, as founder members of the 2nd Division, in 1989, the POSTCHAISE F.C. have played under a number of different names,on various grounds and under different managers.
The idea of The football team was bandied about in the Silver Bugle pub in 1989 by a group of friends who drank in there at the time. The founding committee of the club were Charlie Wright (Chairman), Paul Anderson (secretary), Paul Dolan (treasurer), Jonathon Wright, Andrew Hodgson and Andrew Wharton. The first training session was held at Bishop Auckland Tech Playing Fields on the 20th May 1989. The club played their first game against Hardisty Drive, on The Tech Field. The game was a 4-4 draw. Their other friendlies were, a 4-2 defeat by Canney hill sportsman, a 1-1 draw with The Redworth Arms and a 5-1 defeat by Eldon United.
In their inaugural season they were named The Silver Bugle and were managed by Dave Brown. The Silver Bugle played their home games at Coundon Station. In their first league game they played Aycliffe Complex and were beaten 3-1. The team that lined up on that eventful day was Charlie Wright, Bob Douthwaite, Leonard Ebdon, Paul Stones, Chris Dolan, Peter Baker, Jonathon Wright, Wayne Walker, Andrew Wharton, Paul Richardson and Michael Laycock. The Silver Bugle goalscorer was Michael Laycock.
They struggled in that first season winning only two games and drawing one. However, one of those victories was the famous defeat of The Redworth Arms in which Paul Richardson scored his magnificent wonder goal in which he dummied the goalkeeper into thinking he was crossing the ball, only to chip it over his head into the top corner of the net.
Season 90/91 proved to be a better season for the team who were now named The Green Tree and were managed by Dave Wright. They played their home games at Henknowle playing field. The club finished just below mid table which was a marked improvement on the previous season.
Season 91/92 saw the club finish around mid table again.
Season 92/93 saw wholesale changes in personel within the team. Fresh young talent came in to replace the older players who left for pastures new. Fred Welsh came in to replace Dave Wright as manager, and the team hit freefall. Dave Baglin, who was a promising young goalkeeper, broke his leg on his debut. The team were beaten 8-0 and never recovered, sinking to the bottom of the league.
