Smiling at the start of a very long trek!
Zakopane is a baeutiful mountain town that is popular with Polish and foreign tourists alike.

It was very cheap to stay in and as it wasn't the middle of the season, September, there were plenty of rooms available.

Some of the beautiful scenery on the way
One day, we took a PKS bus right to the Polish/Slokavian border. From there we walked up the side of a mountain to a lake called Morskie Oko.

It is a climb of several hundred metres, but if you take your time, it isn't too bad. For a few Zloty, you can take a traditional horse and cart ride up and down, but don't expect a comfortable ride!

If you are lucky, you get to see one of the Brown Bears that apparently live just across the border.

In the typical "not too worried about it" style that I love about the Polish, there are signs telling you to lie still and pretend to be dead if the bear approaches you!!

The scenery when you reach the top is well worth the walk. The water is pure enough to drink, but no ice is needed, even on a hot day!

Me and my friendly border guards!
As you can see from the last picture, border guards patrol along the Slovakian border... quite handy if you come across one of those bears!
