Until August 2003 I worked as an Anglican minister in Herefordshire, UK. After many years consideration, I left to seek Orthodoxy, having concluded that the Orthodox Church's claims to being the one true Catholic and Apostolic Church are right. On Lazarus Saturday 2004 I was received into the Greek Orthodox Church. The poetry is not intended to satisfy some elite notion of poetic style, but hopefully manages to be interesting enough that people want to keep reading it. I must confess that so much that passes for good writing leaves me cold, it says nothing to me or my life; too much of the poetry we are presented with is really a safe middle class version of the world concerned with the petty anxieties of people that have nothing to say. No wonder poetry sells so poorly, no wonder most ordinary people wouldn't be seen dead reading or writing a poem. We have been swindled, this great art form has been stifled beneath the aspirations of a small group of powerful people who really have no connection with it other than as a means of making money and reputations.
The next book should be out by 2009, but until then I recommend "Open Hand" and "Sometimes Love makes It Through" as my personal favourites and most satisfying books so far.
Many people have found this site a good way to obtain my books, just click on my e-mail address on the homepage, and let me know what you want. If you've already bought something and just want to get in touch, I'm always glad to get feedback from my readers. If you would prefer to order through bookshops (and pay the extra!!) most good bookshops can get them.
Take care, whoever and wherever you are.
