Facts and Figures

I have been a fisherman for over thirty years. I live in Norfolk England and as such most of my fishing is confined to my home county. The selection of excellent venues in Norfolk are virtually unparalled. There are the slow moving rivers of the Broads, Freshwater lakes that originated as 14th century peat diggings and are conected by a series of rivers to the North Sea. Then there are dozens of old gravel pits that hold truly monsterous Carp, Bream and Tench to name but a few. Excellent non-tidal rivers such as the Wensum and the Tas. Then in North and West Norfolk there are the Fenland Drains, mile after mile of irrigation channels and dykes that keep the surrounding land above water. These are virtually unfished and contain huge Pike and Zander, as well as some good Carp.
Norfolk currently holds the British record Bream of 18lb 8oz. It also holds the current record, for a dace at 1lb 4.5oz and the Zander record at 19lb 5.5oz.
Until recently it has also been responsible for record Rudd and Crucian Carp, until the records were deleted.
Over the years the British records for Bream has been held three times, Barbel twice, Catfish once, Perch twice, Pike three times and Zander also three times.
All of these figures just go to show what wide ranging, versatile fishing there is available in Norfolk, probably, in my opinion, the best County for a dedicated Piscator on the British mainland.
