Sea Kayaking in Norway 2001
Norway 2001
This site is mainly a record of a recent trip to the Norwegian fjord of Sognefjord which is north of Bergen. It was undertaken by five friends, one full-time and four part-time instructors at Shannagh-more Outdoor Education Centre.
The trip was enjoyed by all and seemed to get better as it went along. If there was a down side to the trip it would have been it's duration, another few days paddling would of made the trip perfect.
The main reason for choosing Sognefjord and the starting place of Vik was the weather, we were pretty certain at that time of year the conditions that far from the coast would allow us to complete the journey without having to look at alternative routes or being stuck in one place longer than we wished. A costal trip would have been nice but so weather dependant when time is at a premium.
We had a general idea of where we wanted to go, but nothing solid and slight changes were made during the trip. We had planned to wild camp most of the time but found ideal camp sites few and far between, plus cabins were much more comfortable and cost effective in comparison with camping in official sites.
