What's It Like?

Arenal D'en Castell The brochures say ... 'The resort has been created with holidaymakers needs in mind.' ...and 'A favourite for a family holiday...' Don't believe all you read in the holiday brochures!! Arenal is a hilly resort situated on the north of the island and not recommended for the physically disabled. Arenal's main plus is its horse-shoe shaped bay of crystal clear water and soft white sand. The brochures will tell you that watersports are available but this is not exactly true. Jet skis are prohibited by law on Menorca and as such are not available for hire. The only watersports for hire on Arenal beach consist of pedaloes, canoes and small motor boats. There are no windsurfing or paragliding facilities at the resort. ...A favourite for a family holiday, it would depend on the age of your family. If you have teenagers then Arenal is a no-no. There are no discos or nightclubs for their age groups or infact older people. The main bars,restaurants and shops are situated at the top of the resort although there are two restaurants on the beach both of which serve good quality food. Their location denotes a higher tariff. For those who are looking for British beers, Draught Guinness was available at Club 51 (The Irish Pub) Beamish Black and Strongbow on draught were available at The Richard Kane and Draught Strongbow was also available at The Scorpion Bar. These and other British beers were available at most bars in bottles. Bus services to Mahon the island's capital were frequent and reasonably priced. If your idea of a holiday is a relaxing one where you can sunbathe on the beach during the day and savour a few drinks in the evening with Spanish Flamenco music, Karaoke and live DJ's in small friendly bars then Arenal is for you. We rated the resort very highly but would probably not return.
