Specialist Genealogy

JewishGen This site is dedicated to Jewish genealogy. It has a number of searchable databases including victims and survivors of the holocaust. There are also a number of country specific searches and Jewish discussion groups.

Bible Genealogy For all you creationists out there. Here is a genealogy diagram of the old testament family tree from Adam to Zerubabbel and beyond. It includes a link to surnames and their biblical references. Here is another one also called Bible Genealogy developed by David Marshall, which is a fine piece of work. It charts Adam’s descendants and also has a surnames list linked to their biblical references. There is also timeline relating Adam through to Noah, which puts the creation at 4000 years BC. They lived a long time in those days. Adam was 940 when he died. No big bangs here!

Hungarian Jewish Roots provides a summary of research possibilities about Jewish ancestry in Hungary. A surname database about famous and ordinary Hungarian Jews is being developed. The site owners provide a range of services that can be carried out on your behalf, including taking photographs of buildings that were once occupied by your ancestors and searching public records. Charges are based determined by the nature of the request.

Royal Genealogies This site is a wonderful collection of European Royal Family Trees. It includes families from France, England, Spain, Germany and Russia. There is even a section on Roman Emperors. See also the Directory of Royal Genealogical data. In a similar vein (of royal blood) there is the unbelievably comprehensive Allan Raymond’s New Monarchies of Europe Website which truly is a labour of love.

Burkes Peerage & Gentry If you think you might be descended from the gentry or are researching British or Irish notable family bloodlines, this site is the online version of the weighty tome you will find in the reference section of the local library. Searches are free for which you get a small slice of biography. A subscription either for 24 hours or annually gets you full access. It includes such notables as Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Michael Caine.

Another great site listing British nobility and European Royal families can be found at thePeerage.com which represents twelve years of work by Darryl Lundy. Searches include surnames, place names and its own discussion board.
