Polmont Village :- (Gael, “Poll-Monaidh” Pool of the Hill”) |
villages in the Falkirk area. |

The village of Old Polmont :-. |
is situated approximately one mile from junction 4 of the M9 motorway and heading in a westerly direction towards the town of Falkirk. In the village there are a number of fast food shops, a Co-op superstore, newsagent, two pubs, post office, hairdresser, chropodist and two residential care homes. |
is a “T” shaped village which is situated at the bottom of the Kirk Entry, Bo’ness Road and Grange Road, the other arm of the “T” is the Smiddy Brae. The Kirk Entry is a side road on the right hand side as you pass along Main Street, Polmont towards Falkirk, which leads to the town of Grangemouth. |
Over the next few pages I hope to refresh the memories of the ex-pats who have roamed the world and who have longed to see their part of the country again. |
Rural Hall :- |
The rural hall belonging to the Woman’s Institute stood at the entrance of Harvey Park. This was a wooden construction, erected with a sum of money, which I am told was donated by Mr Paterson, who at one time was the headmaster of Polmont Primary School. The Hut was also used by the local troop of Boy Scouts. The building was dismantled and removed in 1984 when the houses in the Orchard were built. |
Harvey Park :- |
The park was donated to the people of Polmont by the late Captain Harvey who at that time resided at Weedingshall which stood on the grounds east of the Salmon Inn crossroads. The park entrance was situated on the right hand side of Kirk Entry and about 200 yards from the junction with Main Street, Polmont. The park was well used by the people of Polmont in it’s day by holding open days, picnics etc., but disappeared when the Polmont/Falkirk section of the M9 motorway was completed in 1968. |
