FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long will the counselling last?
After an initial consultation, a therapy contract may be negotiated. I usually offer an open ended arrangement rather than a fixed number of sessions. However, typically, this will mean reviewing your progress after six sessions and deciding together where to go from there. The end of therapy is, again, usually something we can plan for and discuss well in advance.
How long will I/we have to wait for an appointment?
I can usually offer appointments within two weeks of you making contact. Taking into consideration times available.
I work during the day, can I have an evening appointment?
Yes. Evening appointments are often very popular though and are therefore reserved for those whose work and other commitments mean they cannot come during the daytime. My last appointment is usually 7pm.
I am coming to see you with my partner... how will this work?
Generally both partners attend together and you will both be afforded time in the session. Sometimes, by agreement, I will make appointments to see you separately; these appointments are always followed by a session with you both.
My partner admits there are difficulties between us but won't consider seeking outside help. Can I come to see you on my own?
Yes. It is sometimes the case that one or other of a couple will initially make an appointment and attend alone. Sometimes, this fist step is enough to encouage your partner to come with you to the second and subsequent sessions. For others, the counselling will continue on a one to one basis.
Can I talk to you on the telephone before I make an initial appointment?
Yes. You may initially be connected to my ansaphone machine. However, you can leave your telephone number along with a best time to reach you and I will return you call in strictest confidence.
