Mnemonic: mathematics - This is a number 1 (it has been rotated clockwise by 45 degrees). This number is perhaps the most elementary concept in mathematics.

Mnemonic: meat? - Looking forward to a nice steak dinner one evening, imagine your reaction when you are presented with a meal consisting of nothing but these three celery sticks.

Sound: mu

Mnemonic: move - This picture shows someone's arm bent at the elbow. Now imagine a (frightfully rude) person using their elbow to barge their way through a crowd, shouting "Move outta the way!"

Sound: me

Mnemonic: meths - On the side of the bottle of milk, a green tick is marked next to the words "suitable for drinking". However, on the bottle of methylated spirit, there is a big red cross, like this.

Sound: mo

Mnemonic: modify - Take the hiragana symbol for "mo", and modify it by moving the horizontal strokes upward a bit and flattening out the tail.
