Mnemonic: ya - This is quite similar to the hiragana symbol. You might like to visualise a metamorphosis between the two.

Mnemonic: youth - Grandfather is sitting in his chair muttering "oh, the youth of today..." This is a closeup of his leg, seen from the side. The long stroke at the bottom represents the floor.

Sound: yo

Mnemonic: yoghurt-filled eggs - This is a mirror image of an E, the first letter of the word "Egg". Imagine a food company which uses this as the logo for its new range of yoghurt-filled chocolate eggs.
