Sound: a

Mnemonic: Ark - The picture shows the bow of a ship, Noah's Ark, as it plunges forward through a wave.

Sound: i

Mnemonic: eagle - A golf-club has hit a golf ball towards you. You can't see the ball, because it is the same colour as the background, but you can see the stripe down its middle, as it spins towards you.

Sound: u

Mnemonic: u - This is simply the letter u on its side, with the stick separated from the curly part.

Sound: e

Mnemonic: exit - This shows the arrow on an exit sign, showing the way out of a building. However, it is drawn incorrectly; the stroke that should form the left side of the arrow-head is up at the top instead.

Sound: o

Mnemonic: ox - The face of a big ox is looking right at you. You can see two eyes, and a mouth. Some spit has shot out of the corner of its mouth into its eye.
