Communications and Research Coordinator

2004 – present
I am working for an environmental advocacy organisation and have responsibility for promoting and ensuring quality in all programme activities. Work includes preparing press releases, newspaper articles and radio scripts; media relations; editing research reports and organising events. Strong emphasis on capacity building of work colleagues. Position was organised through the UK NGO Skillshare International.

Project Manager
Business Environment Partnership, Aberdeen, UK
2002 – 2004
Project Manager of an organisation for businesses interested in environmental issues. Role included management of four projects including a waste minimisation initiative, delivery of training and a student placement programme; organising regular events (10+ per year); delivering the communications strategy; and all financial management. Required day-to-day contact with business, economic development agencies, environmental regulators and government departments.

Senior Environmental Consultant

1999 – 2002
Project Manager and/or Consultant on 19 projects including environmental impact assessment, land-use planning, strategy development, environmental review and data analysis. Clients included local, national and EU government; public sector agencies; and businesses in the food, construction, waste, and oil and gas industries. Project experience for organisations in Latvia, Poland, Ireland and Japan.

2-month secondment to develop guidance and operating procedures for Scotland’s Waste Data Strategy.

Field Researcher

1998 – 1999
Researcher (part-time) on a waste characterisation project in remote and rural areas of North East Scotland. Role including the preparation and editing of technical reports and undertaking data collection and analysis.

Poling Clerk
Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen, UK
1998
Served as Poling Clerk in the first Scottish Parliamentary Elections. Included monitoring and advising voters, and ensuring smooth running of the Poling Station.

Sales Assistant
Nevisport Limited, Leeds, UK
1997 – 1998
Sales assistant in a busy city centre shop. Involved selling equipment and clothing for outdoor activities.

Validator
Blackcomb Skiing Enterprises, Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
1996 – 1997
Work included greeting skiers at a large ski resort, advising on weather conditions and checking ski passes. This 7-month position was undertaken as part of a gap year spent working and travelling in North America.
