Pond metaphor of the mind

To explain the nature of the mind, a metaphor of 'a pond' can be used, going something like this. The mind is like a pond, comprising of many depths. Events, other people, or circumstances, can be analogous to different sized stones being thrown into our pond, disturbing the surface, however no matter how disturbed the surface becomes, underneath in the depths there is always stillness. We musnt 'react' from the disturbed surface whilst forgetting the stillness underneath, rather that its only a small part of our mind which has been affected and not us. We should say then, next time someone insults us for instance, "See!, they're trying to throw a rock into my pond! but I know the true nature of my mind and know that I am much more than the turbulent surface, therefore nothing can harm the true 'me'".
