Caravan Sites Plotted on MS AutoRoute
Updated - 2008 data now available.
All the sites of the Caravan Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club have been plotted on MS AutoRoute. The sites of each club have been divided up into three different groups
Using the link below you can download the file Caravan Sites 2008. You will need a program like Winzip to extract the individual files to your hard disk.
If you are using AutoRoute 2006 or later then you can simply start AutoRoute and then open the file Britain 2008.axe but if you are using an earlier version of AutoRoute then you should read the file Readme.txt for more information about how to use the data on your version.

Since I produced my AutoRoute Pushpin sets and made them available on this web site I have discovered that similar information is also available from a web site called Jolly Interesting. The Jolly Interesting web site data is more extensive than my own but is not split into different groups so individual users will need to decide which suits them best. Unfortunately it is not easy to merge the two sets of data unless you have them both in a spreadsheet format so for the time being I am using the two, swapping from one to the other depending on the particular piece of information I want at the time. However the news continues to get better because the Jolly Interesting site also includes all the Caravan Club Certificated Locations (CLs) and Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Sites (CSs) which was obviously an enormous task and a very welcome set of information.
This brings me to a point which has been raised by several members. This data should be produced and made available directly by the two clubs in a spreadsheet format on their own web sites so that it is always up to date. Even if they only did it once or twice a year it would be sufficient. Other members have told me that they have written to both clubs in the past to request this data but so far have either received no reply at all or some sort of 'brush off' so it would appear that we have got to pester them until they do listen. Can I ask that if any of you attend a members meeting that you raise this matter with the club representatives and if several of us write to the respective club sites departments, sooner or later they must start to listen.
If you become aware of any other Pushpin sets which might be of use to club members do please let me know so that I can pass it on. I suppose the National Trust and English Heritage sites would be good candidates. A search on Google for 'AutoRoute Pushpins Caravan' revealed that there are some RSPB sites plotted but I haven't looked at them. If you decide to compile a set yourself do enter them in MS Excel, it is much easier to update and the only way they can be merged into existing files. Have a look at the AutoRoute help files.
If you would like to receive an e-mail when there is a significant update to my data file, especially at the beginning of next year when the new site opening dates are available, send me an e-mail and I will add you to the user list. I can assure you that e-mail addresses will not be used for any other purpose, I know only too well the curse of junk e-mails.
