Mid-Sussex Chess League

And so farewell ...

16 Jul 2005

(This is a personal message from David Roberts.)

As many of the members of the league will know, last November I married Jenny, who lives in the Forest of Dean. It's rather a long journey to matches from there, so at the League AGM on 24 May I resigned as Match Recorder and Webmaster. Since then I've been heavily involved in my freelance work – compiling, editing and typesetting a book of a million and a quarter words – and it's only now that I've been able to find time to update the site, and to bid a final farewell to my chess-playing friends in Sussex.

But this is it. I've tidied up last season's results into the archive, fixed up a few loose ends, and as of now, hand over to David Fryer, who will be your new webmaster. The site will in future be run from www.midsussexchess.org.uk. Please adjust your bookmarks.

At the Sussex County Chess Association Jamboree on 11 July Richard Johnson presented me with a trophy on behalf of the league, in thanks, it says, for bringing the MSCL into the 21st century. It occupies a proud place on our sideboard.

It's been great fun knowing you all, and I'll look back on my time in Sussex with the greatest fondness.

Welcome to the MSCL

The mission of this website is to make available all the information needed to make playing in the Mid-Sussex Chess League an enjoyable experience.

Here you will find essential documents such as the league's rules, the fixture lists, the contact details for league officers and club captains, the names of nominated players, and details of the club venues with maps of their locations. The results service records the outcome of every game and keeps cross-tables up to date. The games section will provide instruction and amusement. There are also items of interest, such as a history of the league and news about non-league events in the county of Sussex. And the archive preserves the most useful data that appeared on the site in past seasons.

This a site for all the people who play in the league, so if you have suggestions, corrections, or useful additional information, do contact me.
