Mid-Sussex Chess League

Games vault

The vault is the place where interesting games played in the league may be exposed to the wide, admiring audience they deserve.

The most recent additions to the collection are shown first.

C Campion – A Fryer, div 3 2004/5
An entertaining attacking game from one of the younger players in the league.
D W L Howell – F Kwiatkowski, div 1 2003/4
Complete mayhem from two top players, with characteristically flamboyant annotations from Feliks Kwiatkowski.
A von der Becke – P Harbott, div 1 2003/4
After errors from both sides, some attractive tactics ensue.
M Broom – D W L Howell, div 1 2002/3
A fantastic game between two of the strongest players in the league.
J Fraser – D B Graham, div 2 2002/3
This isn't quite a giant-killing encounter, but the giant sustains some serious injuries at the hands of a promising junior.
C I Howell – A G Wilson, div 1 2002/3
White's enduring pressure in the Tarrasch Variation of the French Defence pays off again. Don't miss the swashbuckling conclusion to the subvariation.
B Cafferty – M O Costley, div 1 2002/3
The County Champion scores another point; some self-deprecating and amusing comments from the losing player.
G Sachs – B Cafferty, div 1 2002/3
Here we see two of the league's titled players (WIM Gulnara Sachs and FM Bernard Cafferty) in cut-throat action.
M J Reddie – C L Linford, div 1 2002/3
A rollicking encounter between one of the league's old foxes and one of its rising young stars.

Submitting games

If you would like to submit a game to be included here, please send it to me, preferably with a little commentary, rather than just a bare game score. PGN is the ideal format, but Chessbase or just plain old text will be OK. The engine that replays the games can cope with comments and variations.

Games engine

The engine that operates the board on these games pages is based on the PGNtoJS utility by Uwe Auerswald. To find out more about this program, or to download it, see his website. I investigated a lot of possible alternatives (including Chessbase), but this seemed the best. Please let me know if you have problems.
