(Westmorland Gazette 17 April 1897, p.4) The Remington or Rimington family hail from Rimington in Yorkshire, whence the branch to which Mrs Butterworth belonged migrated to Summersgill near Melling, an estate which is still in the possession of the family. Mr Remington was owner of the old Remington family estate at Summersgill and Melling, and was patron of the living. He also owned for many years, and until his death, the fine old Manor House of Fritwell, which has been described as one of the most perfect specimens extant of a smaller Jacobean manor house. After Mr Remington's death it was purchased from his executors by Sir John Simon, the Attorney General, who made it his country residence for some years (Newspaper obituary of Lucy Agnes Butterworth, nee Remington, source unknown) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
