I MADE THIS MARINE ENGINE FROM A SET OF STUART TURNER CASTINGS. THIS IS NOT A EASY JOB, IN FACT I THINK IT IS A GOOD "SKILL TEST" FOR ANY MODEL ENGINEER. I THINK THE MOST DIFFICULT PART IS THE TURNING OF THE DOUBLE THROW SPLIT ECCENTRIC FOR THE MIDDLE OR I/P CYLINDER

| USEING A COMPRESSED AIR DRILL ON THE LATHE |

I MADE UP A ANGLE BRACKET,BOLTED IT TO THE CROSS SLIDE AND BORED A HOLE AT CENTRE HIGHT TO SUIT THE COMPRESSED AIR DRILL, THE BORE WAS THEN SPILT AND A SCREW FITTED IN ORDER TO CLAMP THE DRILL. THIS SETUP WORKS WELL WITH THE HEADSTOCK DIVIDING ATTACHMENT.

I HAD A OLD CHUCK THAT WAS NOT UP TO MUCH, SO I ANNEALED THE JAWS, MILLED OFF THE STEPS AND THEN SILVER SOLDERD MILD STEEL BLOCKS TO THE JAWS. I THEN MADE A SIMPLE JIG TO MILL THE END OF EACH BLOCK TO 120 DEG. THE JAWS ARE THEN TURNED UP TO SUIT THE JOB IN HAND

I MADE UP THIS TAPER TURNING ATTACHMENT FROM A HEMINGWAY KIT. IT IS BASED ON A GHT DESIGN BUT EMPLOYS A 40tpi SCREW FOR FINE AJUSTMENT INSTEAD OF THE GHT RADIAL WORM SYSTEM. MORSE TAPERS AND TAPERED HANDRAILS ARE NOW VERY EASY TO PRODUCE.
