Attendance

If your child is of school age, he or she must attend school. The registers are taken every morning and afternoon and record lateness, absence and the reason for the absence. A child is considered late if they arrive after registration, which finishes at 9.05 a.m.

If your child is absent because he or she is ill or has to attend the dentist* or doctor, then you need to let us know by either:

If we don't get an explanation for absence, we will send a reminder note with space for you to complete and return. If we get no reply to this, your child will be registered as having an unauthorised absence. Unauthorised absences appear on children's reports, reported to the School Governors and the LEA (Local Education Authority).

*If your child has to go to the dentist for a check-up rather than emergency treatment it is helpful to your child if they have an appointment at the end of the school day (after 2.45 p.m.) when they are less likely to miss teaching time, and will then find it less difficult to catch up.

If you have any questions or difficulties about attendance then please speak in confidence to Mrs Taylor or contact Mr Terry Petrie, our Educational Social Worker (ESW) at Holywell High School (01352 710011).

In the academic year 2002-3 we had 0.027% unauthorised absence.

Holidays

Every academic year you are allowed 2 weeks (10 school days) when you may take your child on holiday during term time. There is a Holiday Form to complete should you wish to do this. The school cannot authorise more than 10 days absence for holidays. We do understand how much cheaper it can be to go on holiday during term time but please do think of you child's education.

At the end of this prospectus you will find the dates for holidays for the next two academic years. Each September you will be given a 'Whole Year Diary' listing the term dates, Training Days and events of the next school year. We strongly suggest you replace the following page with the current 'Whole Year Diary' through out your child's life at Lixwm School.
