KYSO Big Band is the brainchild of Andrew Loveridge. He formed the band in July 2002, and they have been rehearsing once a month since then.
KYSO was formed so that talented musicians could play music that was both enjoyable to play and to listen to. Being aware of the elitism surrounding some local bands, Andrew was eager to ensure that people of all ages and statures were given the opportunity to play. At the moment the youngest member is 16, whilst the oldest is over 60!

Using the original 'Miller' line up (5 Saxes, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Piano, Bass, Drums and Vocals) KYSO endeavours to achieve the 'classic' Big Band sound.

The music KYSO trys to cover every genre of jazz. From Miller, Basie, Ellington and Nat King Cole to modern day composers like Myles Collins and Buddy Rich, KYSO really does try to play something that will appeal to everyone.

The Band has gained and lost members since it's start, and we are sure that his will continue to happen until the right mix is achieved.
At the moment we are looking for a 3rd trombone, and 4th trumpet. If you are interested in joining, the band rehearses on the first Sunday of each month from 10am to 12pm. Rehearsals are relatively laid back, and tend to go without a hitch!

If you would be interested in booking the band for an event of function, please go to the contacts page.
