Such was the success of German U-Boats in sinking Allied shipping during the First World War that the reverse of this sugar rationing card from 1917 gives very strong warnings about making false claims of entitlement

1914 - 1918

Although this WW2 under sixteen year old Identification Card carried no photograph, only a description, it was expected to be produced by the parents whenever requested by anyone in authority.
