The “hot spots” for early reference to the name Havers, are as might be expected from the foregoing, in Norfolk and Essex.

My own line migrated from the Havers hotspot of Essex, through London, Cheshire, Lancashire and Shropshire and back to Cheshire.

Antony Adolph, a genealogist, and descendant of the Thelveton Havers may have traced my ancestors back as far as 1666 (the time of the Great Fire of London).

However, I can only definitely go back to John Havers, who married Susannah Raven at Hatfield Peverel, Essex in 1768.

Their eldest son, John Havers, was born in 1769. He married Martha Roberts of Cheshire, at St George’s Church, in Bloomsbury, London.

Their son, John Havers, born 1804 in Bloomsbury, London, married Lydia Johnson of Cheshire.

These families left London to live in Cheshire. However, some of John and Lydia’s daughters returned to London.

Next John Turner and Hannah Havers were the parents of my grandfather John Turner Havers, who was born in Lancashire, in 1873.

HM Queen’s Coronation Medal

John Turner Havers married Margaret Humphreys of Kinnerley, Shropshire. He was awarded HM Queen’s Coronation Medal, 1953, having given some 60 years of service as Postmaster in Welshampton, Shropshire.

One of his sons was my father Edward Havers, born 1908, in Shropshire. He married my mother, Margaret Ellen Robinson, of Whittington, Shropshire.

Another of his sons, William Havers, died in World War II and is buried in Rome War Cemetery, Italy.

I was born in Shropshire in 1945, shortly after the death of William Havers and was named in his honour. I married Delia Redfern in Cheshire and we have a daughter, Nicola and a son, Michael Robert Havers.
